I've run part of the route as I did the CTS Gower marathon 2 years ago, negotiated the hills and the mud ok, then fell over nothing on Port Eynon beach

Mine are Montane featherlite waterproof trousers (yep all the gear - no idea) the only other ultra that waterproof trousers were compulsory kit was The wall, so don't usually take them. The dog found a couple of golf balls, so i'll bring them along for you IronTT

I'm south west too (Swindon - a good place to get away from) most of the runs go well, I always seem to have a wobble about half way and doubt my self and think I can't do it, but get my head together and usually have a strong finish. I always go with the strategy of run/walk on an ultra, walk the hills and walk through feed stations. Shoes are either NB Leadvilles, Saucony perigrines or just road shoes if not too muddy. I use a Solomon s lab bag either 5 or 12 litres depending how much kit/food I need to carry. If you like running coast paths take a look at Endurancelife events. I don't really go for a 'time' just to enjoy it, meet new people and eat cake

I've had a 'big' year in terms of mileage (for me anyway). The Wall - 69 miles, Race to the stones -62 miles with a few others along the way, this weekend b2b marathons, a marathon on the 6th sept then a weekend off before Ladybower 50 on 21st sept  though it averages out to about 50 miles a week. Which is all leading up to my first 100 miler next year!
