boy you run quickly in the snow...... sure you didnt have ski's on....

Rumour has it that most people cant store more than an hours worth of exercise nutriton, I have always taken it with a pinch of salt but it may just be that a long period of running marathons has conditioned my body to adjust...... the problem you may find is that you will feel hungry after an hour but eating when you feel hungry will take time to alleviate the feeling of hunger so you need to eat before you feel hungry if you follow my argument. Again sorry but it is all tyrial and error as everyone is different but you will certainly need to fuel on the way round, whether little and often/larger less frequent feeds during walk breaks/fluids/solids/gels sweets have to wok out what your body will accept and absorb amd now is the time to do it.....

Like the Fairy says it is much betyter to stay near the finish than the start..... saves that horrible trek back after you finish.....

Sorry..... conspicuous by my absence again......

I am quite happy with splitting runs over 2 sessions if time/situation permits or forces it, all I would say is that if the planed run is say 5 miles try to split it as 2 x 3 miles so you do a little extra, it is all about getting used to running on lactate stuffed legs as you will towards the end of the marathon.

Always a good idea to do a shortish run the day after the weeks long run again to clear a bit of rubbish out the legs and loosen them off. DOMS is then greatly reduced, well it works for me anyhow......

Nice to see if you can do some core work as part of your training, doesnt have to be an enormous amount but if you can do a bit to strengthen your centre it will help wth the support and posture whilst running.

Have you had any more thoughts on nutrition, whay are you doing feed wise at the moment........

I am struggling in the cold with ,my lungs..... maybe need to step back speedwise till I have a bit more base in......legs are fine at 8's but takes me a good half hour till the cold air stops freezing my lungs and stiopping me breathe

Alpe d'Huez 2013

Posted: 09/01/2013 at 21:55

I was one of the very fat people who walked up the Alpe...... it was fecking hot and the hills are something you would really struggle to replicate in this country..... the first 2 go up and I mean up... no respite for 20+km, at least the Alpe is only 15k.....

"............... With the run back that will be about 6 miles so will be my long run this week with a 4 miler at the weekend.............."

On target for the week then, how is the knee holding up Vanessa......

I ahve had a look at your paln and have a coupel fof suggestions but will pm them to you with long winded explanations.....  but it is just my opinions....

Running the course before hand has advantages and disadvantages IMHO..... it is lovely to know what is coming....UNLESS.... it is a horrible bit at mile 21 and then you spend the first three hours worrying about it or is that just me   .

Ran 12k last night andf actually felt reasonable, took a blast of my inhaler which I have been using as a swim aid before I set off and it seemed to make all the difference. Cpould have carried on but trainees were flagging a bit. Swim tonight then cross training tomorrow with a bit of a run and a bit of core work in the middle.....

Booked my Berlin flight today for the Mara in September, 8th time over there I think.Just got Brighton to get otu the way first
