Comrades 2014

Fido - i did Crawley Track this year - 6 hours of running round and round and ROUND !! It was very exciting at 3 hours in to get to change direction.

I wanted to get to 36 miles and I did, with a few seconds to spare. I actually won a trophy as well for first lady vet.....very exciting.

I had never run over 30 miles before then and even thought it was flat, I wanted the mental challenge. It was also great as you could have food at the side at learn how to kind of take on that kind of fuel for Comrades - I know you've done Comrades so you won't be bothered with that. I actually enjoyed it....met some nice people and met SD there first time. Good way to have some chats but just to get your head around the challange and to keep going.....again...a 'brain train' for me. I will do another one so it can't have been too bad.

Lovely day out at Beachy - easy to say two days after.

Good to see you again SD and I tried to keep you in my sights but alas you just yomped off into the distance. I finished in 5.12 in the end and even maded myself kind of sprint the last mile when i saw how close I was to bettering last years time. Lovely day, fantastic event, very windy but at least the wind was behind us when it mattered.

Great to meet Piers as well but I think I confused him with my BOSH T shirt which I think looked like I'd been to Stellenbosch - which I have, but that's not what it was for.....see what I mean?......easily confused.

Am glad I wore my Comrades hat altho it did mean I had to look like I knew what I was doing which was a struggle at times and also made lots of folk chat to me.....which was good, but my 'chat' turned to drivvel after about 19 miles...no change there then !!

Look forward to meeting you at Beachy Running Rodent.

I'm going to start my training when I get Beachy out the way - first Monday in November will be easy to get my head around. Am booked into a few runs between then and December - Gosport Half being the biggest really.......madness to enter that as it is a flat fast course, IF you are feeling fast. I'll give it my best.

Am very jealous of you all getting your pens sorted so early. No chance of that for me until Brighton next year but if the worst comes to the worst I will use my New Forest of 4.07....not ideal but there you go. I will not be able to get a C pen but most certainly want a sub 4 and get a D pen again. I have been told that the roads in Pieter are very narrow so it is quite important to get that decent seeding - I only wish I could muster a C although who knows, maybe I'll get super speedy before Brighton.....in my dreams!!

I am planning on wearing my Comrades hat at BH if weather permits, failing that, I will get the old needle and thread out and sew my badge onto whatever top I decide to wear.

Looking forward to seeing SD there and any others of you who are going to go along. Anything around 5 will do me - last year did it in 5.15 and it was 6 days after 3.56 at Abingdon and I just bimbled around taking video, snaps, chowing down at the water stops etc etc....I guess I'm really saying I should extract my finger this year !and GET ON WITH IT !! I do think the weather is going to be a wee bit dodgy though.

My flights now all booked - BA flying out from HRW on the Thursday - arriving Fri morning then out again Tuesday. One day less than this year as am not planning on doing the bus tour. I have been very lucky as my man has bought my flights for me as an early birthday pressie. Also to stop me bending his ear about it I'm sure. I don't know WHAT he means !!

Ally - I have been to CT a number of times as have family and also own a modest sized property there. All the above that has been suggested is great BUT if you are wanting to get some decent tasty grub in you then I say you MUST go to the Mount Nelson Hotel - AKA Mount Nellie - as they do a sumptious afternoon tea there. Pretty much all you can eat for about 16 SA Rand. Cakes, sarnies, strawberries and all washed down by LASHINGS of different kinds of teas. Gorgeous grounds and an old colonial hotel...nice and genteel in a non snobby way and posh gear not needed.
