Berlin Marathon 2010

Posted: 13/09/2010 at 20:28

Cheers everyone... well just been physio and she's battered legs fro an hour, says basically from the pain I was in and simply couldn't even stretch properly, all my muscle membrane is inflamed and she's never seen me as bad as that before... so she battered me for an hour... and told me not to run for a minimum one week, got to go back Friday free of charge for a 2nd installment... but basically this was stretching and massage... ITB's sore, but left one ot the point of tears in eyes bigtime... very very painful...

Basically she's put it down to that virus I had 5 weeks ago, leaving chest and head, however it's settled in legs... inflaming all the membrane... legs feel very very weirtd right now... just walking today in work, even after only running 1.72 mile yesterday legs were hurting just to get out of seat and walk to the printer, that's when I called and said get me in deffo today... hopefully she can do something...

Cheers Pug

Marmite You got a time in your head now? or just sub 2:30?

Berlin Marathon 2010

Well, I'm out of this once again, it's like I'm destined to never run this marathon (thrid time of entry, first time, broke leg, 2nd time was working away), but feel it's a waste of time. Had to drop out of Lake Vyrnwy half Marathon today at a mear 1.72 miles... with shooting pains in lower/upper legs... hips... behind knees... somethign I've been struggling with for weeks now, so decided that's it for this year marathon wise... and won't be making the start line I think.

Hope everyone has a blinder, and I'll be there to watch as I've already paid for hotel and flights, so have to go now... good luck everyone and hope you all do well. Will read posts.

No long final run for me as on holiday in "rainy" cornwall, so did 5.5 mile on Sunday as my last run... only run once over 15 mile, so it'll be fun in Berlin I feel... so, to compensate, just found a 5k in Saltam Plymouth Wednesday night... see how I go... let hope I can run close to 17 minutes, or I'm basically just gonna jog around Berlin... Nice to see people getting those last long runs in though... well done people.

In typical British NHS style, I'm still no further forward. Went to A&E last night and they refused to see me without letter from GP (citing budgetary issues). Called GP this morning and even though the physio has written him a letter he's insisting on seeing me. Course first appointment isn't till Monday afternoon. If the physio decides to go ahead with an MRI after getting the X-ray results I'll have to get a referral from my GP before my health insurance will authorise it so am rather stuck.

I swear it doesn't pay to a. be honest and b. try to live a healthy lifestyle in this country.  Bet drunks, druggies and people who don't look after themselves wouldn't have anywhere near the trouble I'm having.

Sorry, am in rant mode!

On a more positive note, my foot does feel a lot better today though it starts to get sore when I've been walking for a while.  Still maybe a week or so rest will be the thing that's needed.  *clutching at straws maybe!*

I feel your pain, I pay private now, I always do, costs me a fortune, but once with my neck that I couldn't even turn to the right, the NHS Physio said and these were his words.. "I think it's more in the mind than somethign physical"... I nearly slapped him into the next century!

Cheers Pug

P.S Hope everything works out for you though!

Physio is talking about the possibility of a stress fracture so I may be supporting rather than running

Ultra - sorry to hear about your injury. When`s the scan ?

I pulled  a hamstring on Tuesday (intervals - what else?). Tried a run yesterday. Still v sore. Slightly worried coz a torn hamstring brought last year`s Chicago marathon to a premature end at mile 17.  B*gger.

This isn't good, I do hope everyone turns out ok... this is the last thing anyone needs... I double checked my pen and I'm ok jack hahaha, thankfully as I couldn't remember what time I'd put down.

ABYONE WHO'S RAN THIS BEFORE WITH A GARMIN - How accurate did people get it? The reason I ask, I've got a time in my head and really want to set the Garmin to do it, however, if the course is measuring long, then I'll need to just increase pace a little if you see what I mean?

Afternoon 4 Mile punishment run for being a fat idle waster of a runner in this mornings race... 4 mile, 24:15 (6:04 m/m), 6:22, 6:00, 6:00 and 5:52... that'll teach me for racing rubish this morning!

Jesus, Ellesmere 10k today...was NOT FLAT or FAST? Wind just wrecked me, it was blowing a gale out there this morning, have to admit, gutted to not go 35:xx, but hey ho... not sure where results are going to be...

1 Mile = 5:37

2 Mile = 11:28 (5:51)
3 Mile = 17:18 (5:49)
4 Mile = 23:07 (5:48)
5 Mile = 29:09 (6:02)
6 Mile = 35:15 (6:06)
6.21 Mile = 36:38 (1:22)

Basically 5:54 m/m think this is..  ouch, when I wanted around 5:40 m/m... not good... however, the course is basically too many "slow down" points in it... and gravel tracks etc and one point where you cross a bridge over a canel, just grinds you to a halt. No excuses though, only as good as last race and now, seriously have to completely re-assess my target pace for Berlin... going to be lucky to scrape a 2:50 the way I'm going....

Cheers Pug

EDIT: Afternoon 4 Mile punishment run for being a fat idle waster of a runner in this mornings race... 4 mile, 24:15 (6:04 m/m), 6:22, 6:00, 6:00 and 5:52... that'll teach me for racing rubish this morning and not being in the mindset to push harder, found this hard over last two months, heads gone completely now!

Hahaha.. quality I have to watch that with Outlook, if I send stuff from my HTC Desire, it's junk... need to alter the filter.

Anyway, 14 tough hilly miles done, and although backs out and legs hurting, not too bad...

1) - 1m... - 7:11(7:11/m) - 131cal
2) - 1m - 6:53(6:53/m) - 139cal
3) - 1m - 7:45(7:45/m) - 137cal
4) - 1m - 7:11(7:11/m) - 138cal
5) - 1m - 7:15(7:15/m) - 138cal
6) - 1m - 6:50(6:50/m) - 139cal
7) - 1m - 7:24(7:24/m) - 137cal
8) - 1m - 6:42(6:42/m) - 137cal
9) - 1m - 6:47(6:47/m) - 139cal
10) - 1m - 6:45(6:45/m) - 133cal
11) - 1m - 6:49(6:49/m) - 138cal
12) - 1m - 6:52(6:52/m) - 134cal
13) - 1m - 6:40(6:40/m) - 130cal
14) - 1m - 6:23(6:23/m) - 132cal

So, if legs feel ok tomorrow and head and chest aren't too bad, Ellesmere 10k race on Sunday and will go out at 35 dead pace, see what happens... I take it people are "long running" this weekend? Don't forget, 4 weeks, so time for two good long runs without effecting Berlin performance, don't let me down people!

Cheers Pug
