13 miles today at 7:30 mins/mile this morning. Felt alright, not in the same shape as before London. Going to really push it for the next 2 weeks and see where the chips fall...

Nice training run that... have you got a warm up race? A time trial?

Have to say though I'm not an avid follower of athletics.  Don't see why you would be surprised that many here aren't either, just because we run.  Just as in the same way that I drive a car but have no interesting in mechanical engineering, watch TV but no interest in electronics and wear clothes but have no interest in tailoring.

Quite a strange analogy there?  Driving a car and being a mechanic isn't the same, we drive a car because we have to, we don't need to know how it works, we just need to get to place of work etc, we watch TV for information and enjoyment, we'd not need to know how it works? and we wear clothes to not get arrested

Anyone on this forum runs/trains or does athletics surely? Infact if you don't then why are you on the this forum? Therefore, surely it'd follow that anyone who runs would like to see a world record in athletics? maybe I'm missing the point, but it's not being an avid follower of athletics, but a world record in one of the premiere running events in the world, surely people on this forum would be interested and the fact is, I heard by accident... and I follow athletics. Maybe I'm being old fashioned.

Anyway, I'm being argumentative, my point was that someone is the FASTEST ANYONE has ever been at an event... and this doesn't even warrent a front page... instead we get "Peter Crouchs Missus Is Pregnant". No wonder athletics is falling apart... lol and we wonder why everyone turning into a fat lard bucket. Just shag a footballer and it's front page, train 4 hours per day and you're a mention on a forum somehwhere in the world.

P.S Sorry for rant, not having a go at anyone, just annoys me that hard working people get no publicity and big brother contestants are treated like gods.

It disgusts me that over such a premiere event, I wonder how many people on here realised that yesterday one of the greatest runs I've seen and a demonstration of lone running by Kenyon David Rudisha posting 1:41:09 at the age of 21. The time wasn't posted in any of the red tops that I can see... The Daily Mail gave it a 2 sentance slot about 10 pages from the back page...

33 Days to go? OMFG... jesus, that's nothing? Blimey, I thought sub 5 weeks still sounded like miles away, however, now, 33 days sounds like it's around the corner... better get my act together hahaha.

Pug - sounds like you`re on fire. Squeeze  2/3 long runs in before the big day and you`ll be primed.

Cheers matey, BUT I'm anything BUT on fire hahaha... infact I haven't got a clue what shape I'm in at all, and only the next 2-3 races will dictate the facts... I'm contemplating our own running clubs Capenhurst 5k race on Wednesday night...don't expect much as only just over cold, however, would be nice to go sub 17 there...

Pug great 10m after long day you must be looking at a sub 2:50 with that pace on the day!

I'm looking alot quicker than that, well, I WAS looking alot quicker than that... did 2:49 in Chester Marathon in May and in theory I should be in WAY better shape than that, however, I now need to start to deliver... and I've now got two main races coming up that will set me up... Sunday is the Ellesmere 10k race... I'm hoping to be 34.xx there for a new PB, we'll see, however, whatever time I do there, no matter whether I die, over rate myself, whatever, will dictate the pace I then do at my final warm up race Lake Vyrmwy Half on 12th September... whatever I then do over that half will give me the pace I'll attempt at Berlin. Simple as that really, however, think I may start like stated above, with a 5k Wednesday night, just see what I can do... although don't tend to race well at evening races... will decide Wednesday, see how legs fell.

Hydration - Not sure I'm good at this myself... personally through a half marathon i won't drink unless it's above 20C, in which case I slow that much anyway in ANY heat I can have a full on lunch as I go past water stations. In a marathon, for Berlin, I'll be taking 4 gels to take at 5, 10, 15, 20 with a cheeky chewy sweet tucked into my shorts for that 23 mile "OMFG I'm dying stage". Water wise, I made the mistake in Chester that I mixed Gels and Energy drinks and had the most awful stomach cramps that stopped me from 14 - 22 mile and wrecked any chance of my target time... so in Berlin, it'll be water, simple as that and pray that the gels will carry me through.

When I did 19 3 weeks ago, I didn't bother taking a drink, not good I know, was thirsty at the end though...

Berlin Marathon 2010

Hi All,

Hope everyone is injury free and running well, and after a quick glance at previous pages, seems to be the case. I've had this cold for nigh on 3 weeks now, and spent this weekend Fri/Sat/Sun down Oxford for abreak and a chill away from running. Eaten well, woke up this morning and head and chest clearer than any point in last 21 days... and legs felt ok. So, after a 180 mile drive back, legged straight out for a quick 10 miler and low and behold, 64 minutes with a slow 7:15 first mile as warm up as legs were so stiff from the car journey it was untrue... which is 9 minutes faster than I raced a 10 miler last week... just goes to prove how a cold/bug can take a major grip of your body!

So,  although no long run for me, which is now getting very worrying, a solidly quick run for me, so need now, 3 long runs, minimum two over the next 3 weeks... try and claw back some missing training.

P Hocking Great run matey... looking good for Berlin now?

Cheers Pug

Werll, looks like I may have broken the back of this damn cold... been with me now for night on two weeks, did 4 mile last night, still felt wobbly legged, however, head seemed to be a bit clearer and not coughing up as much gunk so, fingers crossed me thinks.

Everything that can go wrong, is going wrong at the moment. Hadn't ran since Monday night due to the worst cold which I've had now coming on 12 days now... but decied to do the Warford 10 Mile race just to get out... what a disaster that was... shouldn't have ran, wheels came off at 2 mile and I slogged my way around in 1:13:16 and all my legs today especially behind the knees are hurting when I crouch and calfs are aching... I mean, that's normally walking pace for me, but this cold/flu/virus or whatever it is is wasting me now and seriously hapering progress for Berlin... just typical... that this now would've been my hardest four weeks running upto this... GUTTED.

Think any ideas of a PB will be well and truley destroyed as can't afford the lack of training I've done recently and looks like being enforced this week also...

Everyone else ok?

Cheers Pug
