Ironman Austria 2014

Finally back, recovered and reminiscing.  Just the most stunning location for a race!

Really nice to meet Happy Chap, Toucs, Troggs and Robbie.  It was definitely too hot for a chubby Scot!

I knew something had gone wrong with Toucs race but that must have been a horrible experience.  Dan is now my favourite pro!  Glad everyone is well in the end.

7 weeks.  Nope that doesn't get me remotely stressed.

Nor did 5.5 hours cycling today thinking about how slow I was, how big the hills would be or how hot kg was going to be.

I am as calm as a quivering cucumber.

As a former competitive swimmer who has had to re-learn how to swim for tri I second the advice on rotation.

You shouldn't have to move your head much if you are rotating effectively through the hips with a strong core.  Also make sure you are breathing out between breaths, it makes the inhalation much more instinctive.

96 days definitely sounds worst.  That caused me to clench my ass cheeks.

How do you ride?

Posted: 23/03/2014 at 07:25

Mainly I ride like a donkey on a jet ski.

However, last week for the first time I managed to spin at 90 and maintain speed.  Usually I grind it out at 70-80 and always wondered why I could never elevate my HR on the flat.  At 90, HR is perfect.

We are taking leisurely 3 days down and 3 days back.  Junior is just going through potty training so any longer days will be like Russian roulette.

Training finally hit consistency in February.  Thank feck!

If you could ask a wetsuit manufacturer a question - what would it be?

Posted: 15/02/2014 at 20:08

Can a "convertible" wetsuit be developed. Similar to the concept of cycling leg and arm warmers but manufactured so that they are streamlined.  Allowing a cold water suit to be used in other conditions.
