That's interesting stats. It's got me thinking about my next marathon, can anyone recommend another good marathon which is close to London but not too hilly?

Hi I'm ok, really gutted about my time however went back to work yesterday and my students all gave me a round of appluase and wanted to see my medal.  It was the look on their face and how proud they were of me that made me realise that I did achieve something people can only ever dream of.

I'm going to let myself fully recover but I think I need to try and get a place next year to prove to myself that I can do it in under 5 hours until then I'm going to start my triathlon training.

Thank you all for your supoort throughout my training, without you guys I wouldn't have made the start line let alone the finish!

Well done BigEater, that is fantastic news.

Disastrous London Marathon

I can feel your pain.  I had a really bad race, my first ever and I predicted it would take me 5:05 max but was hoping for a sub 5.

I was going well till about mile 11 when my knee started to play up (a pre existing injury flared up). I made it to mile 13 which by this point it was painful I ended up having to stop at the first aid tent every 2 miles until mile 21.  I ended up walking a couple of miles and finished 6:19.  I was in agony and absolutly gutted with my time.  My training had been going well apart from a few blips but so so gutted with my first marathon.

My knee is now swollen and needs attention.

I said never again but I feel I need to do it one more time to prove I can do a sub 5.

Hi everyone. My first marathon (and my last) was agony my knee started to hurt at mile 11 and by 13 I was in agony, I had to keep stopping at the first aid tent to get a massage and ice pack. I did finish but was over an hr after the time I hoped 6:19. Gutted but I'm in so much pain now I'm just glad I finished.
