Shades Marathon Training

Evenin' Shadies - some great running going on - Molly, Mowzer, Mamafox, Khani, Big G - nice work. A few injuries, Shades, Keith so GWS....

I've been away for a while, done some sking, some running, plenty of work - I'm doing around 3-4 10ks (or so) a week, so pretty steady, but not spectacular, I have the Hampton half this weekend, very little expectation of a PB, but a run nonetheless to keep me going.

I've decided to not do the Brighton Marathon in April, I just wont be ready, the injury was aggravated when skiing - it just won't work - but I have now booked Chester Marathon in October and booked the TravelLodge the night before.

This gives me a great target (albeit long term) to work towards - I can start the 16 week plan in early June and run a few halfs in the Spring / Summer before that - what's everyone else booked up for?

Hi Shadies,

A slow10k tonight, but felt ok and the ankle is still good, so now pressing on and getting plans sorted for the next few months.

Im still worried about Brighton Mara in early April, just don't feel I will be ready. Can defer to 2015 right up to April, so no need to fully decide now and can wait to run a half next month to check my fitness. But is running just half of a full marathon bad form? It was good enough for Mo  Could do this with Brighton maybe and save myself for Chester

Chester does look more and more promising though, how many Shadies have signed up? I did find a post a while back, but can't find it now. Will keep searching.  Where 's everyone staying. It would be great to do this and meet up.

Happy running

Tim

Evnin' all - Managed a 10K on the treadmill today, weather looked lousy and I'm still trying to shake this cold, so wimped out. The positive news was that the ankle held up very well. I did feel a few aches in my knee and hip, but then tried to ensure I wasn't using poor technique to "protect" the ankle, so all OK.

I'll now plough on with training for the Hampton Half at the end of Feb, but I'm seriously concerned about the Brighton Full Marathon in April, maybe I should defer this??? Likely I'll see how I fair at Hampton and make a call then.

I did read a few pages back that a few of you are doing Chester later in the year, that might work - any spare places?

Khani - I will call you tomorrow for a catch up.

Happy running peeps.....

Evnin' all......I know, I know, it's been a while;)

I've been carrying an ankle injury since Christmas and haven't run at all, feeling pretty sorry for myself really.

But, will run tomorrow , hoorah, and see how it goes. Nothing silly, a slow 10k or so, and see if I can manage that at least.

The Hampton half at the end of Feb is the goal now, but am way off any decent fitness levels.. Got to run smart to get somewhere near to a decent running pace in 6 weeks. DOH

Evnin' all - hope all Shadies are well and looking forward to Xmas.

Some excellent running going on,

Emmy - another double  - nice work, mad though.

BiG-G - sorry to hear that you didn't get in, where will you run instead?

Mowzer - glad you;re getting better, enjoy the rest

Fastkoala - been enjoying Xmas and still putting the miles in - excellent

Khani - you're back !!! - GWS

I'm also struggling with Man flu - i hate being ill but I've been hit with it for the last 3 days and feel like its going away, but i need to be patient. Haven't run for a few days now, feeling sluggish.

Hope all Xmas plans are in place....

Shades - happy holidays !!

My #asics262 Journey to Paris: Sub 4 James

Hey James, many congrats on making the final 5.  It was great to meet you on Bootcamp, and I will be following your progress with great interest.

It it was a shame all our group couldn't get in

Im in the Brightom marathon at the same time as Paris, so will be trying to match your Plan to maximise my chances of sub 4 too.

Nice work

Happy Saturday all

Shades, thanks for the info, if I'm looking to improve my endurance and step up to 5 runs a week (to prep for an April marathon), is it a case of ensuring the midweek long runs are decent length, 15 to 18 milers?

i.e, it's just a case of more miles in the bag? Not necessarily Fartlek, cross training or shorter/speed work. Or still a combination of all of the above, but with longer runs midweek and weekend?

Thanks

Hmmm, food for thought. The selection process of voting for the final 5 (from a shorlisted 15 or so) does seem flawed and there are a few threads stating their dissaproval of this.

They could have a blind voting system and allow the RW heads to decide from both this and their own views - but then there'd be accusations of favouritism there too - so not easy.

It was Shades plan that got me to a 4.09 at VLM this year - which I would not have got anywhere near without. So following this more closely this year and ensuring I include core exercises, cross training and proper dietary process will get me under 4 hours for the Brighton Marathon in April for sure.

I think I need to add more longer runs and really build that endurance, as it was tiredness (wall?) at 21 miles that took its toll in London.
