Just A Little Bit Further 2013

Posted: 11/03/2013 at 16:31

Afternoon all...

Remember me?

How is everybody? Just shooting through - sorry I've not been about much, but a combination of someone quitting work before Xmas, and doing lots of commuting means I don't seem to have much free time anymore!

Quick round up of news - doing Grindleford Gallop has re-ignited my interest in running! Thanks for all your kind wishes, weather was much worse than last year, with rain, sleet, wind, mud... but I did knock 23 minutes off last years time, and came in under 4 hours, which I was happy with for 21 hilly trail miles in the Peak District. Other than racing - in 3 weeks time I officially move in with Liz I'm moving down to Hertford, and will be commuting back 4 days a week, working from home on a Wednesday. Quite nervous, as it's the first time I won't be living in Wisbech since the day I was born, but... hugely excited and happy too.

Other than that, not much to tell really, running hasn't been going that well...or that badly, but now I'm getting interested again so hopefully I'll have more to report. North Downs Way 50 next...

Right, I'm off on my commute home again!

Morning all, just popping on quickly while at work

Hope everyone is okay?

DJ - thinking of you...

Had a nice long run yesterday along the Lee Valley towpath - Liz did the first 7km with me then I carried on, ended up at just over 14m. Am paying for it a bit today with some achy muscles - it's the longest run I've done since the Druids Ultra with Lou at the beginning of November, and the longest tarmac run in a lot longer!!

Right, back to work!

Morning all

Just passing through in between doing a quote or three at work

Deejay - sorry to hear your news, don't forget we're here for good and bad.

Hello everyone else, runners, injured people etc etc

I had a short run with Liz last night, only about 7km, but she's still got a niggly knee, so trying to build fitness levels back up, and ignore the knee, and worry about it all at once it is a bit of a struggle for her at the moment. Still, we had a nice run, and a laugh so... Going to do another short run tonight, and some more when we get back to hers for the weekend, then after that I'm going to go back to training on my own more as I really need higher mileages to prep for the races I have planned. I can then do my recovery runs with her for company

What's everyone got planned for the weekend? Anyone up to anything exciting?

MORNING ALL!!!!!

Oooh, it's new and shiny in here... how long before LLB or Franny break something while swinging vigorously from the pole?

It's nice to see everyone being so positive, changes and new goals can happen any day, you just have to make them happen...

So, my review of last year - ermmm, interesting! Thanks to all of you I made it through my separation, went from having run a half marathon to having run 3 ultras, and had a damn good laugh on here.

Onto 2013 - well, as you all know, I have the lovely Liz in my life now, and i'm the happiest I've ever been (soppy I know, but that's just me ). Running wise I'm starting to get the hunger back - I've amended race entries etc - so far I only have 4 planned. First race is the Grindleford Gallop, a hilly 20m trail race around the Peak District in March. My two main A races are the North Downs Way 50 in May, and the Ridgeway 85 in August, then i'm doing the Round Rippon Ultra in October - other than that, i'll be at VLM cheering on Liz who has a place, and hopefully entering a race or two with her!

Right, better get on with my work!

AF - exactly, the idea of going out last night would have made it a chore, but i'm looking forward to running tonight, will stick the headtorch on and head out along some tracks

Okay, top 3, in no order...

10k PB - my first race was the Grand East Anglian 10k in King's Lynn, May 2011, in a time of 55 and a bit mins.. In 2012 I ran it again as my only short race this year, and did 44:37, which was a 3 minute PB on the day.

Finishing my first ultra - the Dukeries Ultra. It was a bad day - hottest day of the year, 28deg, no shade... was entered into the 40 mile event but had to drop down to the 30, and still struggled. Ended up walking the last 9 miles in, struggling with the onset of heatstroke - but I finished it, and knew then that I could go far, albeit slowly.

Finishing my second ultra - the UTPD - you all read the race report (well, those who didn't fall asleep!!) so you know why that's on my list

Morning everyone

Just passing - MC, glad the concert went well...

Boss - got to twelve days... and then failed last night  Had a bad day at work, then a bad drive to Liz's...and just really couldn't be bothered. Was thinking about it on the way, and realised that spending the time to get my gear on, make her wait longer for dinner etc just to hit some pointless target set by myself went against the whole reason I run - so I rebelled against myself LOL! To be fair, it did what I wanted, which was give me a kick to get going again after having a very restful November. Liz is at her works do tonight so I'll have a nice run tonight instead.

Morning People, just a quick hello from work...

Runstreak is still going, haven't managed any decent long runs at all, mostly between 2 and 4 miles, but they're usually fairly fast paced if i'm on my own, and nice recovery runs if I'm with Liz

MC - keep smiling, i'm sure things will work out with him...

Ecky - keep meaning to look for the magazine, I'll sneak in WHSmiths at the weekend

Hello everyone else  - oooh, Franny, keep an eye on little Chico, sounds like he's going to be mischievious I like dogs with character

Right, back to work - we had a member of staff throw all his toys out of the pram and walk out, so my design team is a man down and struggling with workload!

Cheers Boss man

Nah, the senility only effects tiny blondes

Have a great evening at the Xmas do - I was going to take Liz to mine - but bearing in mind the AGM turned into a huge argument, two or 3 members have left and the head coach has resigned... I'm thinking I won't bother going!

Have a good race!
