Ridgeway 85 - 2012

Posted: 27/08/2012 at 19:24

Aww really sorry to hear that Mr F  that's bad luck, hope you're ok now and well done getting that far. That was a hard checkpoint to leave I found, with the amazing fire and the chairs around it and everything ... You'll just have to do it next year won't you?  No I was alone and I think we ran together early-ish and compared notes about how dreadful the Thunder Run race was - but that could have been someone else, it is a bit of a blur to me too, I ran briefly with a few people and am still a bit sleep deprived.

Yes going up and down stairs hurts a bit  Loved it, did it in 24 having left at 10am (but not sub-24 so got the finisher medal ... ). Really great race, organisation, checkpoints, everything - apart from the weather  Didn't like the veerrrry heavy showers and then a veerrry long shower until 9pm much, but other than that, a really great event

I must have run with Mr F for a while on Saturday, at least didn't talk to anyone else who broke their ankle at 40 miles in 2009 anyway, how did you get on Mr F? And Andrew Smith - I think we chatted too before the half way checkpoint, although a few people were suffering with hamstrong probs - how did you go?

Thanks Lingster, how very odd that we don't have it although I'm told it has been sent out to all entrants... curiouser and curiouser

But anyway, how would you rate it for navigation difficulty? I've heard getting lost is the norm for this race ...?

I am entered for this but am running out of time to check out the route before the race which is a bit of a worry. The organisers tell me that the newsletter with the route has already been sent out to everyone ... I haven't got it myself - anyone else have the route details yet?

Hey Dr Robert

Just wondering when you are planning to open 2012 entries for this wonderful race of yours? It's such a great start to the year I don't wanna miss out ...

Hi all

K.P. - have you tried 'The Stick'  for muscle aches and pains? My physio recommended it to me and it works really well, I've got the travel one.Check it out:

That's great Jenny I did the London Ultra too, it was my first ultra and responsible for my slowly getting hooked on them

Good luck with your training and hope to see you at the Kent Challenge

Hiya Hillheader - yes it is pretty easy to follow, I live in London so run some of the southern sections of it quite regularly and have started to check out the race route. It's mostly a beautiful and varied trail and, as the race site says, no real navigation problems.

Yes I've heard pacers are more about psychological support, lying by telling you how great you look when you look shocking and as if you're about to expire, and talking you out of dropping out of the race I'm definitely going to use one for if can, I think it must be tough in the latter stages, especially with the lack of sleep and night time running in a 100 miler  It sounds like a big leap from 50 mile races to 100 miles. Can't wait though!!

Thanks Wayne, yeah hope to see you at the Toads and hope your injury heals up soon, good luck with getting back into training

That's a good question Lou, and one that I've been wondering about ... I think it sounds really sensible - for moral support and practical help - in a race of that length, and from what I've read pacers can be really invaluable. So I have started trying to line a pacer or two up. I'd really love to do it for someone else sometime, I think it sounds like a nice long training run with no pressure
