Popping by to say "hi" - I'm struggling to keep up with the thread, just general business of life really, but I am still running (working on speed for a fast 10K in May) Good to see you all around still.....*waves*......

Wow, so much has gone on since I last dropped by, that it would take hours to read through! Anyone give  me a summary or where everyone's at??

I've been away in Germany much of the summer and decided to take most of August off running. I just felt I needed the break. But I'm now 2 runs back in (both 4 milers that felt hard!!) and raring to go again. I am down to do the Salford 10K on Sunday, but it's just going to be a training run in my eyes, my speed is way down at the moment!

So, please someone fill me in on the news!!

Ok, it wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty, but we did it!!!!

Thankfully it was a bit cooler yesterday evening, but even so, when we saw the route, we knew that it was never going to be speedy! It started on the athletics track (2 loops) then went into the park where we did 3 loops, there was a killer hill (and I do mean killer!!) so steep that it was hard to actually run up it! There were grown men in club vests walking it, so our first challenge was not to walk! At least before the up hill there was the luxury of a down hill, but again it was so steep, you couldn't get maximum benefit from it, it felt like you needed to keep the breaks on, to avoid taking a tumble!) I checked my Garmin after the first loop and we were under an 8 min mile, but there was no way I was maintaining that! By the time we finally made it up the hill, my legs felt like jelly, I must have used some new muscles somewhere, as I felt I had no power in my legs!

The second lap wasa bit easier as we slightly slowed the pace, but knowing we had to take on the hill a third time was enough to make you weep! But, we made it and by then I was geting into my stride and by the final loop round the track to the finish we managed a sprint!

Time was Slo-o-o-ow (56:12) but this one wasn't about speed, it was about comeback! I hope to get closer to my 47:58 PB at the Salford 10k in September, which I believe is flat!

Oh, and we pinned our wedding photo to our backs, so lots of congratualtory comments too. All in all a fab night!!! Woo hooo!!

Amazing report carter! And great that Mrs C wants to do a race too. You too could put your wedding photo on a T-shirt and celebrate your anniversary!!

Carl, great to hear that you are back out there! I'm sure the ankle will settle down soon!

Ricky, your day at the beach sounds lovely!!

And some more great running from you Alibali

So,tomorrow eve is race night. It won't be fast as it's 3 laps of a "testing course" (killer hill!) and the temperature is due to be 21 degrees at 7:00pm, but, as thise who have followed the highs and lows of my last 8 months know, it will be a significant moment. Will fill you in on how it goes tomorrow!

Well done Carter! I just did a mere 3 miles in this heat and it wasn't fun, so that distance is impressive!

Carl, I had a problem with my Garmin (bought online) they didn't even ask for proof of date of purchase, just sent me a new one. Their customer service is fab!!

Gosh, you don't pop by for a day or two, then there's so much to catch up on!!

Well, I intend to run a 10k n Wednesday evening.  It is our 20th Wedding anniversary, so we are going to break the mold of meals out and do a 10k together. It is going to be roastingly hot, but it's not till 7:30, and we can take a picnic in the park for later..should be lovely. I'm toying with printing a weeding pic to pin to our backs, or is that just too sicky?? Either way the heat and hills should prevent the ususal competitive streak, and I'm excited to enter an event again. My first since the marathon last October!!
