Brighton Marathon 2016

Posted: 09/10/2015 at 16:07
Good luck Toby, hope the appointment goes well.

I managed a run on Thursday which is 3 since Sunday. I'm really happy with that. Still extremely slow and struggling to get to the full 3 miles without one or two walks but I can see and feel improvements

I've found a training plan which is 16 weeks long - it starts at 5 miles. So there's time to get up to speed before I make a start on that.

I've done a few halves, and my bro in law convinced me to try this last year but I picked up and injury in the Great South Run so postponed. I tell people I've really been struggling with my injury but honestly it's just an excuse to be a lazy bones.

We have a lot coming up this year (building an extension, mother in law moving in, starting a new job) so I thought if I don't start now I never will. Slow and steady wins the race...

Incidentally bro in law is having an op and conveniently can't run it this year!!

Hi all, I'm entered. I started training today; 3 miles round the local park. Didn't quite manage to run it all and what I did run was at a snails pace but still run 1, week 1: tick!

It's my first marathon and my only goal is to cross the finish line before its dark...

Richard it's supposed to be a staggered start so I'm guessing the 9 o'clock on the confirmation email is just a generic time for everyone. I don't know how staggered, don't want to be hanging around for hours in Wolverhampton.

Thanks Dizzy, it's very frustrating I have to organise child care and I don't know my start time so can't estimate my finish so it's rather tricky!!! 3 days before is a bit late. Oh well

You guys are really working me now, I've had no communication from the organiser. i understood the packs etc would be coming out soon, I guess no one has one yet? what is also worrying is that neither I nor my brother in law are on that list of entrants despite having an email confirmation from runners world. What's going on????

Oh Lordy!!!!  Had to dash off and referee so no time to proof read.

my two hours was actually wonderful I sat on my bed and had a coffee, read my runners world and got all inspired for trotting. Am planning to work on my 10k spread once I get this blasted half out the way. Am so beer ours about this half, it's in a MONTH and I'm feeling like I'm going backwards. Oh well, hopefully it'll come together on the day. Otherwise it'll just be a nice stroll along the canal.

Welcome Mr F, I'm pleased you're on the road to recovery. Slow and steady wins the race!

Podds your efforts leave me speechless!

Ellie, I know the feeling. This week we have been using our willies and puddle suits, my two are boys so love a bit Of muck, mud and messy stuff. Basically we go to the local park/nature reserve/ woodland and they are allowed to get as dirty and disgusting as they like. The proviso is that they have to get in bath bath as soon as we get home. They just love it. We were at the lake yesterday for 3 hours in the drizzle and they had a fabbo time! my two are just 2 and nearly 4 and it's blooming hard work.  I thought as a primary teacher I'd breeze motherhood but honestly there are days when I feel like I'm sinking. Today isn't one of them though, I did enjoy my time off and it seems the smallest has also had a good morning. he is currently in the garden playing lord knows what with his bro while I try and ready the house for the mother in law tomorrow.

I am running tonight. I AM! There isn't a single fibre of my being that wants to go but I'm going to. I know I'll feel better when I've gone, I just need to get over the hurdle of actually going.

coco I'm so pleased the move has worked out and after all the uncertainty you are feeling settled and happy.

smallest is doing a settling in morning at nursery today which means I am all by myself for 2 hours. It's weird!!!!! I had planned a run but now I'm feeling a bit sad and lonely. Have been craving a bit of peace and quiet but the house is too strange without them. Too quite, too still, bizarre. Am having a coffee morning; reading my mag and drinking HOT coffee. It's nice, but strange.

Haven't caught up on your goings on, I'm sorry for the self indulgent post. Just feeling bit teary and husband would tell me that I'm nuts
