8.30 per mile but would like to run 7.30

Posted: 09/05/2011 at 15:37

Thanks CB and RR. I'm willing to take all and any advice on board. I'm keen to do the VLM next year (Ballot or Charity spot) so it makes sense to increase my total miles per week.

Thanks both for the advice and the link. I'll increase my mileage and build in some tempo work and then come back to this forum with progress at a later date.

I realise this is a tough target that will take time, but I'm willing to do it.

 Thanks again.

8.30 per mile but would like to run 7.30

Hi All

I'm keen runner who would like to improve their per mile time by 1 minute.

I'm willing to work hard and put in the training and miles (20+ per week).

My current race distance is half marathon, so my target is to sustain a 7.30 pace over this distance. Currently I'm running at approx 8.30 per mile.

Any advice or pointing me in the right direction for a good training plan to achieve this goal would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading this post.

Was a good one - but hot!!!  Where did that come from?

Goldenheart and myself completed it in 2hr 3mins together (his 2nd half, my first).  Very proud to say we didn't walk at all - but we are both slightly sunburnt now!

 Good times

Don't know if this link will work or not, but plotted out this course from an old drawn map on GMAPs. Forgive any inaccuracies.

Hope this helps anyone preparing to do this.

See you there.

5 miles this morning, but i took it very easy as did my first ever Body Pump class at the gym yesterday - feel a bit sore and achey today!

So nice to see the sun shining a bit (before it started to rain), even had to take my jacket off cos i got too hot!

12 miles today - my furthest distance!

Sub 2 hours, so i'm a happy (hobbling) bunny.

Ran 6.6 miles tonight, nice steady pace after a week of no running - bad knee and a horrid cold. Felt fantastic though, and planning a 12 miler at the weekend.

4.5 miles this evening with a new running buddy.  Was a good easy pace so took 40 mins.

Hello All,

I'm sure there are a ton of threads about runner's toe, but having come back from only a 5.5 mile run today to find a blood soaked sock again i thought i'd pick your brains.

I have a decent pair of running shoes recommended to me after my gait was analysed by my local running shop, they are a full size bigger and i don't do them up tightly at the top.  I wear running socks too - not sure if that makes much of a difference though.

The problems are only on my right foot, and i have already lost 2 toe nails (the 2nd and 4th ones), now my little toe nail has gone black (just a matter of time before that one falls off) and today it was the middle toe nail that was bleeding - that's now gone a delightful shade or maroon too.

Any ideas what this can be?  How i can just blooming well stop it from happening?  I'm hobbling around now, and my 3 year old keeps treading on my foot and it's agony!
