Sterling work as always SC sorry I can't be with you at the 'Chute this year but with me best mate on a GFA I'll be seeing him to the start and then making my way straight to Birdcage Walk to stake out a good spot.

I shall keep an eye out for any RW runners from there though, no fear! I shall be shouting my little head off no doubt.

And, of course, we shall be heading to the Chandos after where I'll probably split my time between Fetchies upstairs and RW downstairs

I had a look on the unofficial RW facebook page last night, was a bit surprised how far some people are prepared to go, is it really necessary to find out and stalk Ben's linked in profile?

I don't condone that at all but perhaps stuff like that wouldn't happen if the communication was better.

I don't know which group is doing that but it certainly isn't the one I'm in - I've even gone back and checked through posts from yesterday to make sure I didn't miss anything.

And whilst my post count may not be high, I do lurk and pick up lots of valuable tips etc, something which is hard to do when the forums have either fallen over altogether or are chock full of spam.

Some lovely language there Intermanaut, thank you very much for that.

Actually, this isn't about just this one episode. This is a situation that has been coming for many months with the deterioration of the site. The lack of maintenance on a global page such as this (which it is, actually, as the discussion centre for RW UK and I'm aware of a number of people who visit from outside the UK for input and guidance) is, simply, very sad.

And I stand by the fact that I feel Ben's tone and manner of delivery are unacceptable for someone who is essentially the public face of an organisation. I'd also like it noted that not once have I endorsed the fact that some users have "been throwing abuse at them".

Ben - whilst I appreciate you coming on to make your views known and to update on the fac t that an issue is/has been worked upon, the way in which you've gone about it is - and to use your words, "I'll be completely up front" - absolutely shocking.

I have worked in customer service for all of my career and if I'd communicated in the tone and manner in which you have I'd have been sacked on the spot. How DARE you suggest that people who are on here during the day have nothing better to do and are clearly not doing anything important in comparison to you guys in RW Towers?? If you were one of my staff I'd have had you in disciplinary as quick as I possibly could.

And yes, I take the point this is a free site - so are many other discussion forums I participate on but their mods and editors work tirelessly to ensure that the service is at a level whereby the service users gain as much benefit as possible - that is, after all, their job. It's what they are supposed to do.

A forum is only of a benefit to users if it is usable - this has been a valuable resource to so many people over the years who have come on for advice, support and to trade notes on their experiences - but over the last few months the site overall has deteriorated to such an extent that this fantastic interaction is being lost as people get gradually more and more disillusioned with it. And it's giving Runner's World a very bad reputation. I can't believe the attitude that's been taken towards these boards in all honesty - why on earth would you want to lose that?

Aggressive and derogatory comments from someone representing the "Company" are certainly not conducive to encouraging people to actively participate in discussion forums where open discussion can be difficult to have, and where the site owners really don't give a flying monkeys.

Frankly, I see it that RW actually really don't care about the people who post in here, many of whom are subscribers to the magazine and therefore look at it as a part of their overall package. Considering that without those people there would be no site, no income and no advertising revenue I think that's an incredibly poor attitude to have.

Here we go:

If anyone is able to help out with some of the things we need please cut and paste the following list and add your name and relevant details.
Items can be brought straight to mudchute (if youre a supporter) or dropped at the Runners World stand at the VLM Expo.

Jelly Babies, Banana's, Oranges, Jaffa Cakes etc we give out an enormous amount of these to all runners (can be left at RW Expo stand for collection by supporters) - we need lots and lots of these or if you want then leave a small donation of MONEY at the RW stand and we will buy supplies on the day.

Jelly Babies and Jaffa Cakes etc (everyone, to be dropped off at RW expo stand or brought along to the support point)

(100 dark blue, 100 light blue, 100 yellow)

RW Banners - I have these already so don't fret. I'll be passing them on this year tho.

Helium - I'll tap up our sources - or get LB to - again

100's small plastic bags

Support team signs (to be designed and made by each support team)

Someone assertive x 2 to reserve support position from 8.00am
SBH & VikW (once I've told her about it - and it'll need to be earlier than 8am) more the merrier.

First aid kit

Large Balls of String x 2

Scissors x 2

Sharp knife x 2

Swiss Army Knife

Paper plates

Camera/camera person, losts of space on card - SBH will bring one, but we need a few.

2 large rolls gaffer tape

12 x 6ft long bamboo poles (for signs)

Supporter to visit expo to collect items (inc banners) and bring to Mudchute (there was loads of stuff left for collection last year so the more people that can collect things the better)

Thursday collection -
Friday collection -
Saturday am collection -
Saturday pm collection -
Saturday closing collection -

More than one person per collection is most welcome - you won't be short of stuff to collect.

I know

Right - threads are up - go and play nicely please.

I'm off to find the list of requirements and needs that I'll put in here - that's the list of stuff we have to have supporters commit to bringing along or picking up from the Expo.

I need to reiterate now - whereas in previous years I've been able to do three or four Expo collections due to working in London and living close, now that I live and work in Dover I will not be able to do that - it really does need to be all hands on deck this year to make this the success it usually is
