I am sure Natasha Argent will be in favour of this idea.

lessons to be learned.

if you are going to skip half the course remember to take a proper break and calculate roughly when you would have reached the same place in the course.

don't set a new world record pace.

then you can go with the faulty chip story.

How long before the prices come down enough and the technology is suitably sophisticated that the big races issue all runners with a gps unit and has wifi receivers round the course so all runners can be located at all times?

even if they can do it, it is overkill.

a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist.

how can i bring my 5k time down to regularly below 23 minutes

Not true. It might appear like that on the surface, like most cities, but it isn't. It's the place where passers-by lift buses off cyclists, stand in their front gardens with hoses on hot Marathon days and turn up voluntarily to help clean up after riots.

salt of the earth them people.

Wearing headphones in races

Race Directors should state at the point of entry and in all pre-race publicity whether or not headphones are banned because failure to do so could result in many runners appearing on the day expecting to run with them.

Now that should clear matters up!!

I think they can state it very clearly and those that want to always appear on the day expecting to run with them.

Or they simply ask on here "I know it states on the rules but..."

It has been known for people to run with a second chip, so get someone else a GFA or an entry to Boston.  However, it's a simple matter to spot them in the results as you just find two people who have crossed every mat at exactly the same time.  Then you check the photos.

sounds like a job for Mr I.

Is it too much to hope that one of the processes in place to id cheats is looking at the runners world forum?

I think it is certainly the first step in the process.

I hate the Daily Mail but their coverage of it is good even providing a helpful map showing the part of the course she skipped.

Talkback: Marathon running: why do people cheat?

I guess they can't find any incidents from British races in recent years.
