Training for 1.5 mile time

Posted: 05/12/2011 at 00:05
I'll be honest... more running.. and more regularly.

Ignoring all the other aspects of fitness that will be demanded of you, running at least 3/4 times for varying distances and at various speeds/effort levels will probably yield the best improvement in your 1.5 mile time

Find someone else to run with - no better motivation than to exercise with someone else and you have the opportunity to chat etc. as you go.

More importantly, if you're holding a conversation, you'll be running at the correct pace.

I would say get it in on saturday... when you know that you have two days (and almost 72 hours) to fully recover.

Victory 5 is great... got a new PB there this year myself. Didn't make the Gosport half though, was still too smashed from the GSR

starting from scratch?

I haven't run a marathon... but I would say you obviously have a very good base of fitness if you are regularly running for 60-120 minutes. I rarely run for as long as 120 and have been running for a few years now.

I would say you would get more benefit from just doing as many miles as possible and maybe looking to extend your long run to 150 minutes and maybe eventually 180 minutes.

I don't think, given your current level of training, that 30 minute jogs would be of any particular benefit...

Usually best to fit your strength work in on the same as a quality day... either in the morning and then do your run in the evening, or do your quality run then strength train immediately after.

"reaching these certain mileages consistently without breaking down is a lot of the battle"

Spot on... Golden rule of running... try not to get injured.
