Comrades (South Africa) 56 miles

Hi Keith. Well done on getting around the half yesterday (which one was it) after the Comrades. The Comrades uphill is a whole 2k shorter than the downhill & a back to back medal is something to savour!

Who Fancies Comrades 2010?

Posted: 13/06/2010 at 22:08

Hi Folks. I am lucky enough to be the UK Ambassador for the Comrades. if anyone is thinking about taking part in the 29th May 2011 Comrades (uphill), please get in contact /forum/smilies/big_smile_smiley.gif[/img]] . If you have not done this race before and completed the odd marathon in around 5 hours or less, you should be able to get around the Comrades within the 12 hour cut off. The spectators are amazing and will help you get there. The UK has the most runners, after the South Africans & the history of the race goes back to the 1st World War. Finish back to back uphill & downhill races & you will receive an extra back to back medal. Complete 10 races over any period of time and you will receive a special green number that will be yours forever. Hope you are getting the impression this is a great race to get involved with. I am happen to be 50 & been running for just over 2 years...hope that helps you

Best wishes

Comrades (South Africa) 56 miles

Hi Folks. I am the UK respresentative for the fantastic Comrades 56 ultra marathon, in South Africa. If you have not done it, there are around 15,000 people from across the globe (the UK has the highest representation after the South Africans), a 56 mile course that starts in the dark at 05:30 to the sound of a cockerel & Chariots of Fire, some massive hills to get over & around 90 degrees of heat to get through. There are 5 cut off points that you need to get through in the allotted time and must finish the race within 12 hours to receive a medal. There are different medals dependant on finishing time...but the most impressive thing is the is fantastic, with routes back to the 1st World War. This is also the most friendly event there is and the spectators will get you round. Finishing 10 runs (they alternate from uphill to downhill each year) will earn you a green number, which becomes yours for life

If you have already completed a Comrades or would like to...drop me an email /forum/smilies/big_smile_smiley.gif[/img]] ...would love to hear from you

Best wishes

Well done folks. if this was your first half-marathon, you probably choose the toughest one tough as some marathons! I have been lucky enough to have done 30 courses & this had about twice the hills of the Swindon one (next toughest). Finished on 2hrs, 5 mins & 50 secs (around 15 mins slower than normal). Wasn't it fantastic though These have to be the most generous sweety, ice pop & garden hose shower giving spectators in the country. it's the Freckleton Half (near Blackpool) next weekend if anyone else is going
