ATHROSCOPY AND RETURNING TO RUNNING

Posted: 06/10/2014 at 13:19

Well done to everyone on their recoveries and post op races.

I had the MRI results today, the scan had picked up very early signs of arthritis but the doc said that was normal for runners my age and it's not causing the problem.
Scan also picked up a small tear on the medial meniscus, as I suspected. Doc referred me to a knee consultant and then for a knee arthroscopy to give it a 'quick wash out' as she put it.

I'm glad it picked something up.

I'm thinking it could be that, I just really hope it can be fixed.

ATHROSCOPY AND RETURNING TO RUNNING

Yes this thread is a very good read and good luck to all healers. I went for an MRI scan on Monday on the left knee, after physio, muscle balance and gait checking it was felt a scan was needed.
I play squash, no pain, I cycle, no pain, I run and the next day I have soreness within the medial side of the left knee. Very frustrating.
I'm hoping something is found to be fair so I can satisfy my mind.
Results should be availabe at my Docs next week.

ATHROSCOPY AND RETURNING TO RUNNING

Hi Peter/MM,
Good to hear your stories, hope everything goes okay, keep the updates posted on here.
My situation is 18 months of niggly knee pain, on the medial side of left knee, been to physio who gave me strengthening exercises, my VMO and quads are good and my biomechanics have been checked and are okay. I still get a pain on the days after a run, I can play sqaush, circuits, cycle and have no reaction, it's only a running that aggrevates it, physio thinks it could be a slight tear or issue in the medial meniscus. I went to the Doctors on Tuesday who referred me for an MRI scna, hopefully within the next 4 weeks. I love running, always have and as much as I can do the cross training stuff, I want to run far more regularly than I do.

Hi Peter,

What was the timeline in your surgery, did you go NHS.
What was the wait time for your MRI scan and then the wait time for your OP.

I ask becasue I may need to go doen the same path...

Cheers.

Neutral shoes for use with orthotics

I use Nike Vomeros, a nice neutral shoe with a cushioned ride. I have my orthotics (half) under the insole and it works a treat.

Gobi - At the moment I'm just doing 10K type training and road cycling training as my sharper days are behind me.
I was a middle distance (800 / 1500) track runner in my younger years, (1:53 / 3:57), I had more speed than endurance, that's why my 1500 didn't quite compare to my 800m, I hated that 3rd lap.

Gobi,

You say you have more endurance than speed, would you consider going through in about 63-64 and use that endurance to 'hang on' during the last lap.
My best 800m times came when I when I was in a good position time wise at the bell and was able to hang on, negative splits are very hard to do at that pace.
