In my experience (and opinion as P.E. teacher) you can DEFINITELY do too much, especially in terms of playing lots of matches and not training / conditioning / recovering enough.

Personally, doing too much athletics (all  - javelin, sprints, TJ, etc) put too much stress on my body as a growing 13-15 year old. I`m probably still paying for it tbh!

Ditto my brother. Played football to a high standard, sometimes 3 games at a weekend and this never allows you to develop properly.

Oh, and btw, we watch quite a bit of women`s football. I take my girls to see most of Sheffield FC Ladies` matches at Dronfield and, knowing you`re local, give it a go PS!

The Ashbourne Half 2014

Posted: 18/08/2014 at 12:26

Can`t help with the transport but I`m thinking of doing this one. Was hoping to do Chesterfield mara but scuppered by injury. The HM there is £35 so Ashbourne sounds good!

Agree S32 and carter. Races with road closures are getting crazy expensive.

Chesterfield was £35 to enter in advance but I don`t do that unless imperative due to injury risks.... The only problem with London and Manchester is that you spend a stack more cash to get there, etc. Chez Vegas is £3.50 on t`bus. TBH , can`t justify the cost of any of `em at the mo.

Half Marathon vs 10k speeds

Posted: 24/07/2014 at 10:37

Do longer long runs with a fast finish. I did 1.37 and my 10k is 42.40.

Keen to start running in the hills...

Go for it. I`m in Sheffield so in reach of the Peaks. Also don`t be afraid to walk when you need to; even seasoned fell runners will do that when needs must.
