The Ashbourne Half 2014

Posted: 18/08/2014 at 12:26

Can`t help with the transport but I`m thinking of doing this one. Was hoping to do Chesterfield mara but scuppered by injury. The HM there is £35 so Ashbourne sounds good!

Agree S32 and carter. Races with road closures are getting crazy expensive.

Chesterfield was £35 to enter in advance but I don`t do that unless imperative due to injury risks.... The only problem with London and Manchester is that you spend a stack more cash to get there, etc. Chez Vegas is £3.50 on t`bus. TBH , can`t justify the cost of any of `em at the mo.

Have you done any races recently S32?

How`s prep for Bradwell going carter?

Half Marathon vs 10k speeds

Posted: 24/07/2014 at 10:37

Do longer long runs with a fast finish. I did 1.37 and my 10k is 42.40.

Keen to start running in the hills...

Go for it. I`m in Sheffield so in reach of the Peaks. Also don`t be afraid to walk when you need to; even seasoned fell runners will do that when needs must.

Wanting to get faster

For me, 1k reps are key to a swift improvement. Try and run at your target pace, or close to it. So, aim for 4.30, rest for at least two mins and then try and do another one. Ultimately, you aim to do about six with a short rest between each.

That said, upping your mileage is very important too.

I went to minor injuries unit at hospital to have xray and they then put me onto physio so that rehab was effective. It was!

When should I bin the old shoes? Is 500 miles a good innings?

Posted: 10/07/2014 at 10:49

Your body ought to tell you if the shoes are done. Personally I get good use up to around 350 miles from my Brooks but then I`m fairly big (6`3 and 12 stone). After that sort of distance I know I am risking it doing LDRs or real quality stuff so I use them for shorter runs or off-road until 500 miles or thereabouts.

Also if I was you, I`d put the Cortanas on ebay as plenty of folk would probably like to give them a whirl.
