Running in Essen

Hi All

My Hubby and I are planning a city break in Essen in October. Does anyone know of any good parks, riverside trails to run/walk/cycle on?

Hi All

Could anyone recommend a great sports physiotherapist in Bucks, please? I am based in High Wycombe. There are lots options on the Internet but a personal recommendation would be awesome.

thanks heaps

Good luck, Frances! What made you choose an Ultra as your first big challenge? You may want to set smaller goals along the way, just to keep the momentum up. Looking forward to reading more about your adventures.

I like to have music for longer runs to figh monotony, evening runs (with caution!) when I can't see much and need some entertainment. I have also used music during the final 10k of a marathon where I needed the extra energy coming from a good beat. I do not use music for forest/trail runs, I see no need as I want to fully immerse myself in nature.

What music do you listen to when you run?

I am totally in love with Little Boots' new album, Nocturnes - great beats!

Moving from half marathon to a full marathon

I had similar worries before my first marathon. But the fantastic race atmosphere, the crowd support, the adrenaline in my blood helped me stay strong and focused. The surreal thing is that 4 or 5 hours of running in one go sounds like an eternity but when you are actually running this long, you seem to enter a different dimension and sense time differently. At least that was the case with me...

Pilates & Yoga

I have done traditional Fitness Pilates classes and I find that this is best for the core (including abs and back), glutes and general posture. I have tried Ilyengar Yoga, too and certain poses are a a really good stretch (for flexibility). My favourite yoga person is Rodney Yee - he has several really good DVD's for all levels. I would also recommend that you try a gym class called Body Balance - it is a combination of thai chi, yoga and pilates - 3 in one

I am tempted, too! If I sign up, it will be in the New Year as I don't know where I will be in May next year this early!

So there was rain for the 1st time, we had a really hot day the 2nd time, I wonder what the theme will be for the third time the race takes place Tornado/hurricane/tropical thunderstorm? LOL

Thanks for those who have shared so far!

I am going to ask my hubby to hide the sweets in his office in a tin. This way I am less likely to fall into temptation. Interestingly, I hardly ever buy these things, the struggle comes when they are so easily available at home, at work etc.

I have also thought about finding a picture of an athlete I would like to look like to motivate myself to eat healthy. Or I could do the opposite - find a picture of someone who got too fat to demotivate myself from grazing. At the end of the day, there is no use training hard if I spoil all the hard work in the end with sugary junk!

Sweet Teeth

I have the sad habit of grazing on anything sweet within my sight. Chocolate biscuits, chocolate bars, cakes, ice cream, you name it. I am finding it really hard to resist. I blame my husband and my colleagues who buy these things and leave them out. I even make these things...

But I am trying to cut down. With more or less success. Mostly less.

How are you trying to curb your sugar cravings?

Has cutting down on sweets or completely leaving them out of your diet boosted your running potential in any ways?

Here is your space to share your success stories, shocking stories or your struggles.
