Has your cheque been cashed ?

Fourth time unlucky for me .  Was looking forward to having a great incentive to train. Oh well, think I'll go for a half instead and maybe next time.  Can't afford a GB place - I've done it twice and everyone's sick of sponsoring me!

Jane Tomlinson has died. RIP

RIP Jane

I remember running the Leeds half marathon in 2005 and getting to around 7-8 miles and really feeling sorry for myself and thinking I couldn't carry on.  I then noticed Jane stood at the side of the road cheering everyone on - I think she was undergoing treatment at the time - and I just thought 'Think of everything that wonderful woman has achieved while suffering so much - how dare you feel sorry for yourself'.  It certainly spurred me on and I achieved a pb that day.

I also have 2 friends who started running solely to take part in the Jane Tomlinson 10k - 2 of hundreds I've no doubt and what a fantastic achievement to encourage so many people to fitness.

Deepest Sympathies to all the family but great thanks for an amazingly inspriational woman. Her legacy will live forever.

Hi all, sounds like some really good training and racing going on here!

That post took me back to FLM 06 Shades - I had it pinned to my kitchen cupboard for the week before the race!  Great advice it was too

I've bought myself a new pair of running shoes, I'm trying out Nike Air Structure Triax which are motion control as opposed to neutral shoes with an orthotic insole That i had been running in.  Numerous reasons for the change but I'm hoping it's a good move.

Only downside is new blisters while breaking in - feet are very soft at the moment anyway due to lack of running, I'm sure once I've toughened them up they'll be fine.

I've officially joined my new running club - Stainland Lions - and I'm enjoying running with them and I've entered a race - my first in 18 months! It's the Barnsley 10k in November so plenty of time to train.  Any tips welcome...........

Thanks for all the kind messages peeps

I took the bull by the horns and joined a new running club tonight.  It's a much bigger club with loads of mixed abilities so hopefully I'll find I fit in better but it wasn't a normal training night tonight (I found out when I got there!) it was a looped relay named the Hare and the Tortoise.  It was an approx 6 mile loop and you set off in 2's then went seperate ways round the loop.  You swopped the baton when you met then turned round and went back.  I stayed at the back of the line as a slow runner because I've been rubbish recently and got paired with one of the fastest runners and.....

I've never won a prize before!!

If that hasn't kicked me up the backside then nothing will.

Not sure I'll be able to walk tomorrow though

Thanks all.

I've just ordered a new pair of runing shoes and I've entered a 10k in November.

I'm really enjoying running again at the moment and desperately want to keep it up.

I want to run a spring mara next year.  Either London or Lochaber I think.

A close friend of mine recently lost her very brave fight against cancer and I want to raise money for the hospice she was in and also for Cancer Research. Hopefully having such a goal will spur me on and help ensure I don't quit this time.

Hello all

Hope nobody minds me joining back in?

I've been away from running for about 12 months, I've had a difficult year.  Now though, I'm determined to get going again and I want to run a mara next spring.  I've put lots of horrid weight on so I'm trying to shift that too and thought it'd be nice to come back again and hopefully get some moral support??
