The VW Diesel cover up

Posted: 25/09/2015 at 20:58

I have a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI. Not sure if it's affected by this - they don't sell Skodas in the US, but I imagine all the VAG engines are basically the same underneath.

I'm not sure how bad this will be for VW, I expect there's a lot more information to come out. This is VW's share price, something like £20 billion (or $ or €, I forget) got wiped off.

Running with surgical gloves on

Posted: 15/09/2015 at 22:24

Ran the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday. Waiting in the pen at the start and a few minutes before we're due to go I notice the guy in front of me pulling on a pair of latex gloves, the kind of thing your GP might wear when he checks your prostate.

Seemed like rather an odd thing to do. It was a fairly warm day, I can't recall seeing anyone else wearing gloves of any description. Anyone know (or would like to speculate) what the reason was for wearing them?

Cyclist ruding on pavement runs down child

As far as children cycling on the pavement goes, the age of criminal responsibility is 10. So if a child under 10 cycles on the pavement then there's not much the police can do about it.

Get yourself to the French parkrun.

Their highest turnout was 12 people and the fastest time is 20:42.

Ways of finding volunteers to help out at a race

Got an email from England Athletics today promoting this site for sports volunteers:

hopefully that's of some use to you.

Anyone from Hampshire?

I live in Fareham, usually do Havant parkrun.

Joining a running club is a great way to meet runners, I'm a member of Fareham Crusaders so obviously I'd recommend them. Alternatively, hang around for coffee at the end of the parkrun and get chatting to people.

Bring Out The Gimp

Posted: 01/06/2015 at 23:01

Ran the Bristol 10K yesterday, saw someone running in a full-on gimp outfit.

What unusual outfits has anyone else seen (or worn) in a race?
