The 2013 Pirate Kit Order Thread (Take 2)

Hi Guys,

I'm new to tri and would love to become a pirate.  I have competed in a couple of sprint distance events and have another one in September which will be the first one that I have felt fully prepared for.  I turn 30 next year and my A race is Iron Man Copenhagen.  I'm well on my way to full fitness for this, although my swim certainly needs work.

I am looking for a place for the Yorkshire Marathon so if anyone hears of one that isn't going to be used or someone that has to pull out I would greatly appreciate you letting me know!

The Great Cumbrian Run

I'm doing the GCR! It's my first time for it and also my first half. I started running about a month ago so I'm really looking forward to this one. Come to think of it, it's also my first road race - my first ever race was a very steep fell race. With it being my first, I'm aiming for under 2 hours but hoping for 1:45.

Aw thanks! That's really nice. It was sort of ok. My weight has pretty much stayed the same which is both good and bad. I got a talking to about 'excessive exercise' though and left the session early.

I had my first run in a pair of 2xu tights last night. I dont know if was the placebo effect or a real benefit of the tights but I ran my best times yet.

My recovery is slipping. I hadn't really noticed (or chose to ignore) the fact that I've been really cutting down on what I've been eating. I haven't had a proper meal for 3 days; obviously there is a multitude of excuses for this such as the time of day that I'm running not being compatible with a large meal etc. I am really cutting down though and struggling to force in the calories I need to maintain my weight. I'm running a lot and reluctant to take rest days. I probably need to take a step back and look at things with a sensible head. I made the mistake of reading the book 'Eat and Run' - the book focuses a lot on the author's diet and it certainly hasn't helped. I might try high calorie snacks in an attempt to get something in. I have a weigh in on Tuesday that I'm dreading, although from what I've read, running doesn't lead to much of a decrease in weight does it?

Rest Days

I'm a new runner, I've been running properly for just over a week now, prior to this I rowed but have been relatively inactive for the past 6 months. This week I've done 2 days - 5miles, 3 days 6/7 miles and two rest days last week. My problem is, now that I'm increasing my mileage (10 miles planned for Saturday) I'm reluctant to take rest days. Yesterday was going to be a short jog but I felt good so ended up doing a 7 miler with my quickest mile splits yet. I've joined a running club so have been training with them twice a week. What number of rest days are normal? I have a dog so walk her 5/6 miles everyday too. I've considered cross training on "rest days" but with my first ever race coming up, I really want to keep up the running. Any advice on taking rest days would be much appreciated.

Hey jelley,

I'll take a look at that website, thank you! I think becoming veggie is part restriction and part wanting to be healthier. I really don't want to gain fat, I'm ok bing a not bigger but I want to be very lean and build muscle. I know it's possible but I have to be careful as people are watching me very closely at the moment.

I actually have just bought Chrissie wellington's book, haven't started reading it yet but I'm hoping it will inspire me. I want to be free of the ed.
