Hi Pips, welcome and congrats on progress so far. A improvement of over 10 mins for 10k in a matter of months is good going.
IMO 6-8hrs per week is absolutely fine at the moment, particularly for a relative exercise newbie. This 20 week half iron schedule peaks at aboutf 11hrs per week and that's not unitl about week 15.
I'd guess that Hever is your main target for the year with the other tri's being sprint/oly as training events. Much also depends on what you want to achieve. Just finish obviously requires less training/effort than going for a particular time.
The key is consistant and quality seassions and a steady build up.
