trail racing and ankle sprains

Posted: 12/11/2013 at 16:09

Hi,

I just ran a trail half marathon that had a technical course with a rocky terrain. I sprained my ankle VERY badly at mile 4 and had to 'crawl' for 9 miles.

Is there a technique for racing on rocky ground? How do I make sure I will not sprain my ankle again? Does anyone know of any websites with strenghtening exercises for train racing?

Thank you very much!

Hanson training method for half marathons

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to adapt the Hansons training method for running half marathons.

Should i do the marathon paced runs mentioned in the schedules at half marathon pace?

Thank you!

Hi,

I am thinking of buying these. They are supposed to be "road to trail" shoes. Does anyone know how they perform on the road? Are they suitable for treadmill running?

Thank you!

Hi,

I hurt my knee going downhill and have been resting it for the past few days. Do knee wraps/braces work? Would I be able to recover faster if I wore one?

Thank you!

Stephanie, I forgot to mention that depending on the person, some do better taking the med at night while others take it in the morning.

You may need to explain your symptoms with your doctor. do you take your med in the morning?

Hi Wellow,

I have a herniated disc on my lower back. Had lots of injections there but they didn't solve the problem.

My neighbour has a massage therapist but she is on holidays. I am going to get an appt with her and discuss my butt.

How have you been feeling after your run?

Hi Stephanie,

It takes around 3 weeks for it to start working. In the beginning you may feel sick and tired but, with time, it will get better and better. I would not be running if it was not for this medication.

Hi Steady and Wellow,

I am confused...how /why do the butt muscles stop working? Is it muscle weakness?

Would strength work help?

Wellow, well done on your run! Make sure you stretch those muscles.
