Stroud Trail Marathon

It will be slippery, raining now and rain is expected on and off until Sunday morning.  Ran the canal path and cycle track last night and this morning and they are currently muddy in lots of places with standing water and if the high winds continue the common areas will be gusty and probably quite cold.  Definitely a trail shoes race with the recent change in weather.

Mrs T Rex could try The Ram at Woodchester (fab food), The Fleece in Woodchester, The Black Horse at Amberly, The Bell in Selsley or otherwise you have the chain pubs Wetherspoons and a Brewers Fayre in Stroud.  Brewers Fayre is opposite Stratford Park with plenty of play facilities for children, a free museum with trails and lots of space for running about.

A good day all round, I though the support ad marshalls were amazing.  Agree with the paper cups problem, I ended up choking myself, snorting it or tipping all down my front.

I hated the industrial estate mainly because it seemed to go on and on and I am not a lover of fishy harbour smells at the best of times.

My message at mile 23 didn't come up.  I was desperate for it at that point and even stopped and asked the man but he said it had been cut because there was a loud speaker announcement in the back ground - GUTTED so wanted to see my children at this point.

I was pleased with my time getting a 16 minute PB and a sub 5 hours (not as good as most of you - well done on some amazing times and performances)

Would I do it again - probably but prefer to do different races and with the entry fee the weekend cost me as much as a cheap holiday to Spain for 5 of us.

After a problem out on a log run 3 weeks ago, I went to see my GP who told me that I had a heart murmur, they immediately carry out an ECG and 2 GPs read the result and both said they were quite happy for me to run the Brighton marathon next weekend.

I subsequently went and saw a private specialist who again carried out an ECG and said they were happy with the results and that everything was normal and that they would be quite happy for me to run.  He didn't even want to give me a Echo as he said it was a waste of time and my money.

The specialist told me that he suspected that my heart murmur had been caused by high levels of work related stress as he couldn't hear the murmur when he examined me (just had 2 weeks off work and very little stress).

Not sure that this really helps but just thought I would share my experience.

I booked a premier inn on 20/04/14 (first day they became available) and for 2 rooms for 2 nights in Newhaven in will cost just under £300. I could have gone this weekend and it would have been half the price.  Supply and demand I guess.

Thanks Greenfairy, I booked tickets to get me into London Rd on the advice of John2443 so hopefully won't get delayed for long getting out of the station.

The logistics of travel, hotel and babysitting all seem harder to sort than the run at the moment.

Thanks J Swizzle and John2443 for your advice, it really is appreciated.  I didn't realise it was 9:15 start, I have booked for London Road station and I won't have any baggage to worry about anyway.

Hi All

Lots of questions I am afraid and I am hoping that somebody might be able to help.

I have never run Brighton before and we are staying in Newhaven the night before.  The earliest train we can get to Brighton on the morning will arrive at 8:34 and then we have a 10 min walk to Preston Park, do you think this will give us enough time to get into our pen?  I know it starts at 9am will they let us in to the pen at 8:45-8:50 or do they shut them off at a certain time?

Thanks in advance.
