Life begins at 40?

Posted: 08/09/2011 at 19:28
I'm 43 and I enjoyed turning 40. A friend of mine who turned 40 the year before I did was so positive about it (unlike a lot of people I know) that it rubbed off on me. I took out mountain biking that year and have never looked back since!

The bloody brilliant thread

This is a nice cheerful thread!

The brilliant thing for me is that I am head over heels in love!

Biker-mouse- I'm sorry- my annoyance was with the question, not your answer. I've PM'ed you

By the way, I wonder sometimes: what makes some women wear short hair? I don’t mean this being disrespectful, I am only asking with due respect, for curiosity. I respect their choice of hair style, is pure curiosity.

There are probably as many answers as there are women with short hair.

Because short hair looks better on me. Because my lifestyle dictates short hair. Because my hair is short and has never been long, grows about an inch a year. Because I don't like the look of long hair. Because I don't like all the hassel of trying to keep it neat when it's anything more than very short.

I wouldn't even consider answering such a ridiculous question!  What's far more curious is that there are people out there who are curious as to why some women have short hair.

It's a big world out there, it takes all sorts Vicky.

I think you'll find that's the point I was making! You were the one giving the impression that the only way to be an attractive women is to be feminine.

I also really can't stand people who breathe down my neck in queues. I tend to stick one foot out behind me to keep 'em away!

Mental illness and running

I've just read this thread for the first time and just wanted to offer my sympathy. Could you get the mental health team to talk to the cardiology team? It's well recognised that exercise can help mental health.

and what's more, I can't stand men who nag at women to be more ladylike. If they want 'ladylike', there's plenty of women out there who are like that, so leave us tomboys alone because there are men who want us as we are.

It is a matter of personal preference. Personally, I prefer women to look like women - that for me doesn't mean short hair and no make-up. I'm not saying I don't appreciate the natural look, far from it. If a woman cannot be comfortable in her own skin without layers of slap then that is not attractive at all, but I do think subtle make-up can do wonders for enhancing one's beauty.

There is nothing weak or inferior about feminine women who wear make-up. Some of the most iconic women of our time use make-up and femininity to empower themselves in their careers and lives. And they're certainly not seen as shrinking violets.

Did i say there was anything weak or inferior about feminine women who wear make up? No I did not. I said that I can't stand men who nag at women to be more feminine. There are plenty of feminine women in the world for men who prefer that, but there are other men who don't prefer that (including my OH).
