What's your motivation?

Nothing virtuous or new about why I run

To keep the years at bay
To destress after work and anything else that 'bugs' me
To prove to myself that I can do something well for myself
To show that even after back problems that I can return to successful running even if slow.
To challenge myself, setting my own goals and the sense of achievement that comes with attaining them.

Hi monster

I've not suffered bad depression but have been through some low times and they felt bad enough. All the advice above will help you and I was given the same when even getting up was a struggle. Try and end each day with a positive thought, even if its that you did get up. Try writing it down at the end of the day.
You are welcome to e-mail me if you wish.
Take care

HELP. RTA and whiplash

Posted: 12/01/2003 at 18:11
Thank you all for support and help.
I'm taking anti-inflammartories and using a hot water bottle for local heat. Physio tomorrow when I hope he'll be able to start loosening my shoulder as it's painful and I'm having problems turning my head from one side to the other. I'll just have to try and be patient knowing that I will get back to running!

HELP. RTA and whiplash

I saw the physio on friday but he didnt want to treat it because the muscles were in spasm. He did ultra sound and then taped the area, my left shoulder/neck area seems worst affected. X rays at the hospitalshowed no damage to the bones so it all seems to be soft tissue damage. I'm looking for a ray of hope as i haven't run since before x-mas and I really didn't need this!

HELP. RTA and whiplash

I'm not having any luck with my running, I was just about to start again and was on my way home when the car slipped on ice and I ended up in a ditch. To cut a long story short i have whiplash and wondered if anyone knows how long this takes to clear up and how long before I can run again?

Am I too old in my 40's to join a club? I keep putting it off as I think that it's only really for younger runners and that all the training will be geared towards the young with potential. I'd quite like to meet new people and run with others. Again, Im not fast, but it can get lonely always running on your own.

Blocked Painful Sinuses

Am smitten by the same bug and have had what seems to be a permanent cold/flu like virus since before christmas and haven't been running or doing anything since then. A cough I can't shift, fuzzy ears, stuffy head and heahaches. All remedies seem only to be a short term answer. I feel like I'm turning into a blob. Not sure about the candles though!!

Every time I race I end up injured!

Can anyone help me?
I was entering and running races without problems at the end of the summer, then I ran one tore my calf muscle and now everytime I race I end up with another injury (different ones each time) which takes me out of training only to struggle back to repeat the performance.I don't run until given the ok by the physio so it can't be that I'm returning too soon.
What am I doing wrong? I'm getting sooo demoralised as it seems to get harder each time to get back to fitness.
I'm running a half marathon in March and am worried that I won't make it. Last run was a 10K 2 weeks ago.

Running Kilts

Well here I am late again to this very amusing thread. I think men in kilts look good but a bit unsure about the running thing, must be like running without a bra? As for the all in one lycra rowing thing, it looks gross!!
