Post run recovery

Posted: 01/02/2015 at 16:08

After some advice please on post run recovery. I am in the transition from road to trail with the goal of competing my first ultra in July. On my current long off road runs which are up to 17 miles I get very cold after I finish running. I make sure that I am changing into dry clothes straight away and have a hot shower as quickly as possible. Even after doing this I still don't feel right and feel cold for the next 30 minutes until I become completely warm through again.

I am sure that this has something to do with blood sugar levels but am unsure whether I need to be taking more sugars on during my run or should just stuff myself with chocolate as soon as I finish.

Apologies if this is a stupid question but just want to finish a run and feel as normal as possible. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks very much for the point in the right direction Personel. Booktrunk, it's going well so far and long runs up to 15 miles and also started to do some fell running. I've had my first twinge with a bit of runners knee but hopefully a few days rest should sort that out. Looking at marathons to aim for in the Spring as the next target.

OK, point taken. I am new to this so forgive me for not knowing the etiquette. If people don't want to read it then they don't have to follow the link. It says in the title pretty much what the thread is about. I am just doing the blog as a personal diary really and  posted it in case it was of any interest to anybody. I promise not to post links to it again.

I started my journey towards doing my first Ultra next year when I entered The Lakeland 50 back in September. This is the latest instalment of my blog charting my journey towards becoming a proper ultra runner.

LL50 - AARRGHHHHH, what have I done?!?!

Posted: 02/09/2014 at 08:52

Well I've gone and done it now. After much procrastination I have taken the plunge and entered the Lakeland 50 and hopefully by the end of July next year I shall be able to call myself an ultra marathon runner.

For anyone who is interested I am writing a blog about my journey from 5k to ultra marathon at;

Although it is mainly there as a reminder to me why I am doing it and what I hope to achieve I also hope that other first timers can empathise with it and we can support each other through the months ahead until we join the ultra club.

From 5k to Ultra

I have been floating around reading up on ultras wondering whether a social runner who has only run up to half marathons could take the step up. I have found the response to any questions I have had have been amazing from the ultra community. During the process of weighing up if I had such an event in me I started to put my thoughts down on paper (tablet). Now that I have decided to put my name in the hat I have decided to put these ramblings into a blog (something that I have never done and never dreamed I would do).

Please don't feel obliged to read this as it is as much for my benefit as anybody else's. If you do have any interest then I hope that it reminds the more experienced about taking their first steps into the ultrasphere and if there are any other potential first timers then perhaps we can hold each other's hands through the experience. If you do have any interest then apparently follow my adventure over the coming months by clicking 'follow' at the bottom of the front page.

Run Wales,
So that's what has happened to my trees, I knew something was wrong with them!
Since that is the case then there could only be one thing that could possibly take my mind off this disaster as well......

Surely that wouldn't make a difference at this stage? I didn't even think about that being a problem!
