Run Wales,
So that's what has happened to my trees, I knew something was wrong with them!
Since that is the case then there could only be one thing that could possibly take my mind off this disaster as well......

Surely that wouldn't make a difference at this stage? I didn't even think about that being a problem!

With the entries ending tomorrow, how long are they expected to deliberate on who gets put forward to boot camp? I say that everyone on this thread should be a shoe in!

Ahh procrastination, lager and cake, that sounds familiar! Best of luck for 2013 Tom, hopefully we can both reach the 4.30 goal by the middle of the year.

Cheers for the advice Redhead. I certainly hope to enjoy the first experience over killing myself for a time in the process and sometimes need to remind myself of that!

I live in the North East so the obvious one would be Sunderland as a spring event but have to say I am also tempted by Manchester as I have family over there and also Edinburgh as I have run the half up there and know how flat it is!

I am now going to have a look at the schedules you have recommended and hopefully this shall lkeep pushing me in the right direction to actually just go ahead and take the plunge.

I think it would be pretty exciting just to get to the bootcamp stage! To have access to coaches who can set you in the right direction for this type of event would be an amazing experience. Now like Heather I must put this to the back of my mind now and try to keep my expectations in check. Did they tell you how many people entered last year Knight Rider?

Hope this is the right place for a bit of advice. I have been burying my head in the sand about doing a marathon and just sticking to running to keep fit and completing a few half marathons. I think it is now time to take the plunge at the age of 37 to suck in the doubts and just get on with it. My problem now is what sort of goal to aim for so that I can start to plan a training schedule. Through people's experience could they advise on what sort of goal time I should be aiming for. I have run three halfs that have all been between 1.45 and 1.49 but had little left to offer at the end. My initial thought is that I should be aiming for around 4.30 and would appreciate the thoughts of anyone who has been in a similar position.

Good luck to everyone who applies. I have put my name in the hat as a first timer to try and help me break my mental barrier about being able to complete a marathon. Would be even better to do it with a bunch of like minded runners to share such an experience!

wannabe ultra runner?

Advice please, I am completely new to the idea of ultra running but quite fancy having a proper go at it. This has been increased significantly by my wife scoffing at the idea of me doing such an event which tends to make me even more determined. I have only ever run events up to the half marathon distance but am a fairly committed type when it comes to training and taking on new challenges. I live in the North East so there are not a great number of events local to me and was tempted looking at the Lakeland 50 as a target but the entries seem to have already filled up? Any advice from the newbies of days gone by about getting started and taking the plunge as well as with regards to events in the North would be greatly appreciated.
