Sports psychology webchat with Victor Thompson

Hi Victor

A few years ago I trained like a mad thing, achieved some really good times (for me) and then, somewhat predictably, got injured. Then I got depressed because I was injured and ended up not running for nearly 2 years. All that is behind me and I now train sensibly, but I find that every time I start to train more intensely it's as if my body and mind conspire to stop me and I'm plagued by all sorts of aches, pains and negative thoughts. In the last half marathon I ran, I nearly pulled out at about 9 miles with all this going on. Any tips on how to overcome this - I know it's all in my head?!

Mr Puffy's advice is sound. Last year I registered really quickly on the Saturday but then made the mistake of looking round the expo and leaving exhausted and dehydrated about 3 hours later. That old chestnut 'stay off your feet' is a good one

Trying not to mind about this. After all, it's only a hobby...not like it's my life or anything

I'm doing this one tomorrow too. I might just be grumpy but I'm not impressed with the organisers billing this as chipped, charging us £24 and then deciding actually, it isn't chipped. Hope the tshirt is worth having - never been able to bring myself to wear the Wilmslow one...

Good luck all x

Brooks Glycerin 10 versus Glycerin 8

Posted: 27/05/2013 at 21:38

I have had several pairs of Brooks Glycerin of various numbers and haven't been able to detect any difference between them. I've recently moved to the Brooks Defyance, which apparently is made to the same design, but is cheaper. I hadn't realised, but the Glycerin is the top of Brooks cushioned neutral shoes. I'm happy with the Defyance too, although the Glycerin looked nicer

De-lurks to say love those Dire Straits lyrics

Did Meta Fit class this morning. That was hard!

Which would you say is more physically demanding?

Obviously, I didn't agree that it was the end of the discussion...

Agree. No recovery ever is a short cut to injury....Being injured? Now that's demanding...
