Lakeland Trails Coniston Half Marathon 2016

Posted: 24/01/2016 at 21:07

I've done this...most of it is on well trodden trails, so not too 'off roady' if you know what I mean. There's a lot of climbing, so its not going to be a PB course...The views are stunning.

When I did it...it was the hottest day of the year...and the day Murray won Wimbledon...we all cooled off in the lake afterwards. Fab!

Go for it, you have plenty of time to train

I did it two years ago. As JB says, it can be very windy on the prom. For me, this meant flying down to the half way mark at speeds never seen before and battling back up considerably slower whilst having sand blown in my face :-/ Well organised race, flat as a pancake course though.

Achilles injury is it that bad?

There's some good advice on this thread that you would do well to follow.....racing on an already sore Achilles is asking for trouble IMO

First official trail run

I did the 50k at Keswick in Mizuno Wave Ascent trail shoes...they were rubbish. I would have sold my granny for a pair of fell shoes after the first 10k...feet are mashed today!

It was a great weekend though..would definitely do it again. Glad you had a good time too Derek and Dave

First Ultra Shoe

Hi Pete

I'm not sure I can be that helpful, but I'll tell you what I have just learnt.

I finished my first ultra yesterday - Keswick Mountain Festival 50k. Much of the route was steep and rocky. I ran in Mizuno Wave Ascent, and they weren't up to the job at all. They're basically a road shoe with a bit more tread. I looked on enviously at my fellow runners with Salomon and Inov8 on their feet.

I'd say it depends on the terrain. If you're running on trails and paths, then you don't need anything special. If it's going to be rougher under foot, then a fell running shoe seems to be the thing. My Mizunos were great for the last 3 kms on the road...but pretty rubbish for the previous 47km...

Good luck with your search. I'll be interested to hear what those more experienced than me say, especially about the wide toe box as I have wide feet too!

Bump. Only a week to go until this awesome event. Having checked, I discover I paid £28. I'll accept £15.

Very sensible....I quite fancy the 10k if I'm honest. There's a nice boat trip before the start.

I have a place for the 25k on Sunday 17th May if anyone would like it. I paid £35, I think, but will accept £25. Beautiful scenery apparently. I will be attempting the 50k on the same day....(laughs hysterically)....

When to take beta blocker on race day

If it helps, all the research says that if you're properly rested beforehand, a broken night before a race makes no difference to your performance. Good luck, hope you sort it out.
