RUNNING A RACE INJURED.

Posted: 02/08/2010 at 13:42

Lil, take it easy and rest (or at least back off the training a bit).  If you're up to 9 miles now you won't have a problem doing the distance on the day.

A few years ago I tore a knee ligament 2 weeks before a half that I was sponsored for, I started it slow and steady and thought if my knee hurts I'll walk the rest.  That was fine and I was walking at 12 miles when someone who's never beaten me went past, so I started running agin and beat him by a few metres.  It took about 3 months to get back running again after xthat.

More recently (May) I did something to my knee playing with the kids, stopped running for two weeks, then ran a half.  I ran all the way, but once I'd crossed the finish line I could hardly walk!  I saw a physio who sent me to a consultant, the arthroscopy is September!  6 months out just for being silly, but I guess the damage was done playing with the kids.

Take it easy, listen to your aches, and enjoy the run if you feel up to it on the day.  But bear in mind there is always a risk when running with an injury that you'll make it worse and take longer to get back to fitness.

Coasting Round Britain : Bideford to Bristol

Hi all, sorry for long absence, various problems in the background and reality caught up with me.  I'm probably going to have to put my sensible head on and drop out.  I haven't had chance to check the runners list recently, my worry is that when I last checked I was the only runner from Croyde to Ilfracombe.  Can anyone do part/or all of this?

Hi rf - hope you're OK, Mrs W had bad nausea with first little wrinkly, so I feel for you - but to be honest can't really say I know what you're going through!

I hope you're able to do a bit, even if only to say you were part of the first Coasters event.  Maybe if you picked a bit nearest where you live and said you'd 'tag along' with another runner, or even say a mile before a handover point to a mile after.  Keep us posted on how you feel nearer the date.

'Round The Coast Of Great Britain Run

Watching Hoose, did knee in a couple of weeks ago, I can now walk up stairs, downs are a bit tricky still.  To make me feel better Mrs W has bid for a half marathon entry next week.  The longest I've run since the Eden half last October is 5 miles!

I checked the RW mag, but their Get Fit Fast is half mara in 6 weeks not 6 days - if she wins the entry I could be looking at a DNF or at best PW.  Still I like a challenge  so I'm hoping she wins it!

Hi Tri-Chick - are you still Co-ord for this stretch?  Ive been out of action for a while, but I've managed to escape from the real world.  Do you need help organising this stretch?

Stephen NR has come upi with some possible legs, but I'm not sure if anyone has been allocated to any of them.

Ullapool-Badnagyle
Badnagyle-Lochniver
Lochniver-A894 Junction
A894 Junction-Scourie
Scourie-Rhiconich
Rhiconich-Durness
Durness-Cape Wrath

The list of names above has 8 runners in it, so with a bit of luck you should be covered.  Give me PM if you need me to chase everyone up.  If you all know what's happening and who's doing which legs have you agreed handover points, or are you planning to use Stephen NRs?

Coasting Round Britain : Oban To Ullapool

Hi Iain Moore - I'm finally back online - the real world got in the way of important things for a while.

It's seems like you've got quite a chunk to do there, if you can break it down into manageable chunks I can help out a bit.  Do you have the contact details - bear in mind if they ask me any tricky geography questions I'm stumped - I'm in deepest, darkest Devon.  PM me if you need any help, but it looks like you're well organised and my main help is likely to be 'broadcast' emails with the odd phone call.

Hi Helterskelter - I'm finally back online - the real world got in the way of important things for a while.

It's a bit worrying to have such a big gap at the end of this leg, have you had any joy with Auld Kenny/Fifi8 (just re-read that - I'm sure you know what I mean ). We've got about 5 weeks before we need to call in some floaters.

PM me if you need any help, but it looks like you're fully sorted here.

Hi Helterskelter - I'm finally back online - the real world got in the way of important things for a while.

It's seems well organised here, have the handover points been agreed?  Especially between Richard36 in Stranrear with Rossco B/C8T and Scott with you at Ayr?

PM me if you need any help, but it looks like you're well sorted here.
