Liverpool Rock n Roll Marathon anyone?

Posted: 26/05/2014 at 18:15

had a great time running the half,

did my 1st marathin 3 weeks ago and have niggles in my knee since so set off steady pace to see how it felt, ended up running 34 secs off my PB, lovely course, really enjoyed the route

i did think there would be more bands

loved the goodies after, fab medal, lovely tee, free beer sat in the sun with club friends listening to the music enjoying our drinks

fab weekend

first marathon , 4:27.45 , despite knowing the hills were there they seemed very tough at the end, the last 6 miles seemed twice as long

great support on course , loved it

there will roads open close enough to drop off, half hour is plenty of time... not sure about the line for the loos though, maybe go at the coach way before getting in a cab , closures will start around that time though, last year i was a marshal and we met up in the centre and i had to get back to bletchley , i made it, but was a long route due to closures around the shopping centre

ring a local taxi service and book a cab ready when coach is getting near

Age Children Start Running/Athletics

Posted: 22/04/2014 at 01:26

my girl started running at school , yr 4 , try outs for X country, got in the team and was in it every year, she was 4th overall at our city yr 6 finals .

she loves running , but she also plays netball and trains for that weekly , keeps her fit

she runs in secondary school X country now, 3k series  , and comes to parkrun if they they have no netball matches , shes now 12 and has a sub 24 5k, she can beat me, which i love .

i have never put her in a club , they are odd times for us to get her to,

i think if children love to run they will always love it , and will only compete well if they love it,

we recently took her to an open X country , the under 11s race 8-11 yrs was 200+ the under 13s had around 40 girls, every one of those girls in the under 13s wanted to be on that start line, the younger crew didn't look as thrilled to be there !

parents can be a great encouragement for children to be active, if they see their mums and dads and adults having fun, running and competing , they will be more inclined to join in and its normalised into a healthy lifestyle

i used to run with her at parkrun a year ago, now she deffo runs with me

thread crasher  hi all, i'll be at MK , doing first marathon , its my home town so the route and redway are very  familiar to me

hoping for a best outcome 4:15, happy with sub 4:30 ,

oakley 20 i managed in 3:11 .... depends on the day really , the weather etc

either way i  will finish my first 26.2 , which is super, it will be  fab day and really looking forward to club buddies out on course to and supporting also

good luck all, have a great run , if you see me on course say hi

last year i marshalled for the event at the top of hospital hill (24.4 miles in) brilliant , hope this years marshal is as enthusiastic lol

Shiftwork Training and Running

Posted: 21/04/2014 at 16:37

gah!!! shifts, it would be okay if there was pattern, mine have no pattern, they are proper random , and do/have interfered with marathon training , i never skip long runs, i may change their day or time though.

i have often stayed up post night shift to run , i get a bit grumpy , i am pretty organised food wise as i have kids to cater for , they are not very young, but easier to prep/plan food on time off and use slow cooker alot to make bean/lentil casseroles or curry in  so its ready when i walk in

i buy a lot of smoked mackerel ready cooked , so its to heat up , and eat alot of pasta, cous cous and omelettes, as i'm impatient and want food fast

my worst shift is long day 7am- 20:30 , i might jog home after them , but is only 3 miles , but okay for an odd 'easy' run and better than no run

i got a 6 month contract last year of 9-5 mon - fri (clinic) hated it , too routine , went a bit mad lol

so as annoying as shifts can be, theres a lot to said for midweek days off too

attempting to enter the ballot after midnight .... last year i was working and it closed when i was home  i was most displeased,  i don't have the kind of job i can log at work and surf the web ... this year i do not start work until 12 noon ... there is a glimmer of hope of at least trying to get in lol
