Biggest running achievement in 2011: My biggest running achievement in 2011 was completing the Marathon des Sables in Morocco. I'd never tackled a race where you have to carry all your own kit, and I struggled with blisters, so making it to the finish line after 250K and 50C heat felt like a big deal. I also did my first 100K race, the Norfolk Coastal Ultra Race.
2012 Running resolutions: My main running resolution for 2012 is to get in shape for the The North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. I've wanted to do this race for years and have finally collected the qualifying points I need to enter. I'm not sure how I'll train in London for a 166K race with 9,500m of climbing (that's the equivalent of running from sea level to the summit of Everest!), but I'll give it a go.
Races planned and targets: Once the new year begins, I'll get back into Tuesday lunchtime speedwork sessions with everyone else in the office. That should set me up to be part of the Runner's World pacing team at this year’s Virgin London Marathon. I might have a crack at my marathon PB in Berlin in the autumn, but that's too far away to think about right now.
