New multi marathon world record

"24 years of focus, discipline and dedication… and now that dream is realised."

On Sunday November 11, Steve Edwards obliterated the world record for running 500 marathons in the fastest average finish time, which now stands at an incredible 3 hours 15 minutes.

Crossing the finish line at Enigma Fox, Milton Keynes, Steve, 49, became the first athlete in the world to run 500 official sub 3 hour 30 minute marathons.

Nicknamed by friends, family and fellow runners as The Godfather Steve said, “I was truly humbled when I saw the tribute 'THE GODFATHER 500' had been printed on all the race numbers of the runners taking part and receiving a special running shirt bearing the same name after the race.

"Today has been a very special and emotional day which I will remember for the rest of my life.” he said after Sunday's world-record-breaking run.

“I once had a dream ... all the effort, all the hard work, the blood, the sweat and the tears. Where do I go from here? Who knows? For now it’s a time to just savour the moment,” he added.

Steve is a member of the 100 Marathon Club which features in Running Crazy by Helen Summers.
