Where Southend, Essex
When October 8, 2006
First Man Cris Bloomfield 31:32
First Woman Danielle Sale 35:47

Only the brave would bet on good weather at an autumn seaside race, but at this year’s Southend Classic 10K on October 8 a “Kiss Me Quick” hat would have provided handy protection against the glorious sunshine.

Competitors might not have enjoyed the heat but the crowds of supporters did. They cheered runners the length of the fast, flat out-and-back course along the seafront, past the world’s longest pleasure pier, and all the way to the finish in South Church Park.

The disorganised start and finish were the only disappointments in a race that was well organised in every other respect.

First home was Cris Bloomfield in 31:32, with Danielle Sale first lady in 35:47.
