MIGHT BE ABIT ADVANCED FOR A BEGINNER
This book is good for those who want to run a marathon. Its comprehensive and contains useful information and tips. The exercises are pretty useful too.
As the book is part of the dummies collection, expect to read american.
Its a big book which might be too much for a beginner. This is very much like a bible so if you want to learn about the marathon, read it at bedtime or when you have some time available.

GOOD STARTING BLOCK FOR TRAINING
As expected from the 'for dummies' range, very simple to navigate through sections, breaking down the jargon and keeping it simple for beginners.
Good 'getting started' training plans as well as plans to help develop established runners beat their PBs.
Can be quite dated (especially with the GPS section) and is based quite strongly on the views and opinions of one runner, rather than a selection of athletes as i would expect from 'for dummies'. For example, stretching is only looked at in detail for one method - AIS - whic is all well and good but not my personal preferred method of stretching - could do with a variety of opinions.
A very good book to get you grounded in the ins and outs of marathon running / training - a great starting block for getting into serious training but i would recommend it for use alongside other training guides as well and not as a single point of reference.
