When buying running gear, popping down to Blacks the outdoor place doesn't seem like the first stop but if you like running then you are no doubt into other sports too and buying top gear for all your activities soon starts adding up. I grabbed a bargin in the sale at New year of these 2 tops in the technical range and have never looked back! They have all the cool, wicking, flat seam features and as I have a 'womanly figure' it wasn't too tight in chest either. I wear these tops for running, walking, cycling and when I was learning to ski, they wash well and don't let odours cling to the fabric unlike some I have bought in the past. So well done Blacks!

No, I don't work for Blacks! I just was surprised that a high street chain store could produce something as good that fit. I am lucky that we do have a proper running shop where I live but not everyone does and the branded names of gear can be a bit more than I can afford. ;-)

If you want cheap and cheerful running kit, then Aldi/Lidl at times, or Decathlon are also good places.

I've bought wicking tops from Millets (same as Blacks really) before that have been OK.

You're right though DM - its all the same basic kit.

I've used Decathon stuff, but it does tend to go a bit smelly, I find. Or maybe that's me!

I've got Nike and Adidas stuff that's a bit whiffy too Wilkie but as they are £20 a pop I put up with it. If it were and 8 quid top, I'd probably bin it sooner.

Wilkie - some of the running stuff (kalneji) i have is starting to go that way - but the Quechua wicking tshirts from the hiking stuff (Blue product) is odour free thingied and only £5 or 6 - i wore one in nepal for 2 weeks and it didnt smell! Flat seams too, and they do ladies fit

I've discovered the kids section of Blacks has t-shirts that fit me and they're nice and cheap compared to the adults ;o)

Blacks are great (or at least the York one was), they gave me a 10% discount on some walking boots on production of my Fell Runners Association membership card.

Not sure that's standard practise but might be worth a shot. NoEAA card didn't have the same effect!

Try soaking your smelly kit in a solution of disinfectant before washing it. Kills those nasty bacteria which make your gear smell.

Most of the running kit I wear in winter is from places like Cotswold Outdoors and George Fisher.

I get lots of my running tops from outdoors shops, 'cos in summer I need proper T-shirt sleeves not vests (sunburn). Works fine, cheap, more choice of colours & sizes without huge logos, and I have not noticed a smell (but then I smell when I'm running anyway).
