Best bit of kit I've ever bought.....

I use it for running, cycling and hiking and then manually add swim and kayak sessions on the website so have a record of my progress across the board. Brilliant to see elevation gain and loss with hiking in the Lake District. (With a full battery it holds up during long sessions! - 6 hours was longest and still had some charge left) I used the Garmin ready training schedule for a half marathon which has been great!!
Generally easy to use and brilliant motivation....
Sometimes takes a while to locate satellites.
Upload with ANT stick sometimes needs repeating as it can get it's knickers in a twist.
I love it....I got mine with the HRM for £200 and I've certainly got my money's worth.

Definitely a worth-while investment!

i got mine 5 weeks ago when i started training for the Amsterdam marathon and it has made my life so much easier!
it's a great way to watch your speed, HR, time and distance, all at the same time. Beging able to analyse all my runs afterwards on the computer is also brilliant. No more mapmyrun to work out how far i'd been, it now downloads the map automatically.
very sensitive bezel especially when you are wearing a jacket. Make sure the screen is locked once your session has started!
Cant seem to work out how to delete some activities on the watch itself, but easy enough to do on the computer!
very happy customer here and looking forward to see if it can locate where I am while holidaying (and training!) in Spain...

Excellent piece of kit for training and monitoring your pace

Due to GPS extremely accurate in terms of measuring distance covered and pace. Graphics, chart, data and map analysis via automatic wireless download to laptop and Garmin website provides fantastic mapping and analysis.
SuccessUsed it to run at a set pace and beat my 10k pb
Instructions arent brilliant but you get used to it fairly quickly.
Not cheap, but you are getting the best
Ive never been good at judging pace, but this does it for you.
Brilliant bit of kit and if you are interested in stats, this does it for you via auto download and website.

Sadly disappointing really.

In principle this is a must-have piece of kit for serious runners. It is great being able to measure distances and pace whilst out and about - particularly on my long runs. Being able to upload and review all my historical data on the web to check my progress was another reason for buying this.
Where do I start? Sometimes it takes absolutely ages for the watch to locate satellites - up to several minutes. The battery seems to drain far too quickly. The bezel takes a lot of getting used to. Even though I have read the user manuals thoroughly and checked out a lot of tips on the internet, the bezel functionality on my Garmin can only be described as 'random' at best. The strap broke after only six months - I am in the process of trying to obtain an exchange so this will be a good test of Garmin Support I guess. The watch also locks up regularly.
I'm really hoping that if I get a replacement Forerunner 405 from Garmin it will work better proving that I had a duff one to begin with. (For the same reason I'm going to mark all the scores in this review as average - surely they can't ALL be as bad as mine appears to be?) Like I said, in principle it's a must-have piece of kit but I am finding that my anxieties associated with its seemingly random problems are making me doubt its reliability and I'm becoming increasingly less likely to rely on it during events. Unfortunately that renders it somewhat useless!
