Finally thinking of splashing out on a decent running watch and after considering all the various types I have taken a fancy to the Suunto T3. So I was wondering if anyone owns the Suunto T3 and what are your thoughts of it?

Also do any of you good folk have the Suunto Foot Pod or the Suunto GPS - what are your thoughts on these products??

Cheers in advance.

Both footpods and GPS have their own advantages. It depends on where you intend to run.

GPS is slightly more accurate, but needs to have a "clear" view and can lose signal in woods and dense urban areas.

Footpods are slightly less acurate, but work indoors, in woods and dense urbans areas where you don't always get a signal with a GPS.

Unfortunately there isn't a perfect solution.

Hi, this is something of interest to me as well so am grateful for the above advice. Does anyone else have any thoughts. I think i've narrowed it down to the Polar RS 200sd and the Suunto t3. Both are footpod-type as I do most of my running in central london. I see that the Suunto measures EPOC values. Being a novice I wonder whether this is of use to me. Anybody give me any thoughts?

I use the suunto t3 with the foot pod, before the t3 I had a Garmin 201 then a Garmin 205. Most of my runs take me through trees or around building's both play up the Garmin a little bit [not so bad on the 205]the pacing can be all over the place on the Garmin as well. I have found the T3 to be a lot better especially when running off road and on hilly routes, I still have all my routes from my Garmin stored in my computer and there is little or know difference between the Garmin 205 and T3. Having used all of these I would say the T3 is the better espiecially with the extra functions it has.

Hey, RBC-C and Jus thank you very much for the advice.

Considering what you have both said I think I may go for T3 with the footpod.

David, Red Lion Sports have T3 with a footpod at £145.

Doesn't the footpod rely on the same pace throughout or summat?

My old Polar is begining to play up, or my ticker is, and I am beginning to look for a replacement but all the GPS I see seems to keep going wrong.

Also, I use mine as a watch which the 305 cant do I understand.

No it it is very accurate real time pacing and the Garmin is not, I also use mine as a watch never take it off even when I am swimming. Have a look at this place very good prices and will explain how it all work's, sorry can't do links

If you want to find out more about the Training Effect system and EPOC and all sorts of really complicated scientific stuff, have a look at FirstBeat Technologies website its the company that did the programing for for Suunto T seris HRM amongst other stuff.

most of it far too complicated for myself to understand, but they have a good FAQ
