The strap on my beloved Timex Ironman Sleek 200 lap chrono has just given up the ghost. I like it because it has large digits for those of us of a myopic disposition, records lots of laps and individual runs, and -perhaps most importantly for someone who still struggles to get up for his early morning runs.

I could buy another one cheaply on eBay, but are there any other options? Something with a duralble or at least replaceable strap - and with hairy arms, I don't get on with metal straps. The TechTrail watches as sold on eBay look intersting. Alternatively, does anyone know where I could get a replacement strap?

All suggestions welcome!

I get new straps put on sports watches, at local market stalls, for just the cost of the strap.

I posted the Timex details on Gear a few weeks ago. Lemme have a look....

The Timex Ironman straps are unique and very hard to find - a local shop quoted me £27 to send it away to be replaced.

A telephome call to UK Time found the cost to be £5.08 inc. postage

First check the strap number on the Timex website.

PS The original Ironman I have has a steel link strap which has lasted 10+ years so far

Thanks OOK! I'll give them a try next week.

BD: The problem with this particular watch is that it doesn't seem to have a conventionally fitting strap - it doesn't seem to have the pins that one would expect (although it is separate from the watch itself)

No pins?

I need a picture!

Well , the replacement strap has arrived - apologies BD, it is fitted with pins!

I've now spent several hours trying to get them to fit - with no success. Will have to enrol the services of a friendly jeweler.

BTW, the strap was £5.something includeing postage - a bargain!

Apology accepted.

It's not a bargin if it costs you to get it fitted.
