Can someone please tell me what the top lace hole is for on Asics (and other makes of running shoes).  Im confused as to whether i should be fastening them all the way to the top.

Also, does everyone buy a size larger, i have had to so my toes dont stub but feel like a massive big foot (really comfy though, Gel Stratus).

it's called a butterfly, you put the lace on the same side through it to form a loop, then put the opposite lace through the loop and pull tight, it gives extra tightness.

Most people do use a size larger, everyone I know does.

Lacing shoes...

... Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs!

I've always wondered why the extra lace whole. It really improves the fit around my ankle ... even on an old pair of shoes I always found a bit loose.

i'm impressed (would have put smiley here but my message widgets have all disappeared!)

Top lacing's great if like me you've small heels as the shoe can cup the back of the foot better. Good for improving subtalar stability without having the lower laces pulled too tight across the top of your foot too.

It'll be interesting to see if it has an effect on the run. I've always been prone to a bit of achey ankle but found having the top laces tight too uncomfortable as I got warmed up. Perhaps it may have contributed to my current shin woes having that bit less support ... we shall see.
