Looking at some of the comments made here by others I'm curious to know if those having problems with the creations are the heavier or lighter runners?

The time has come for me to invest in a new pair of shoes for training!

When I bought my last pair I went down to the running shop and was prescribed as being an over pronator (I think thats the right one?!) and on their advice purchased a pair of Mizuno 'WaveRider' 7's. These have proven to be a fantatsic companion for my feet and served me extremely well - no complaints whatsoever.

Indeed so comfy are they that in an attempt to extend their life I purchased some new gel support insoles but alas, I have started to experience some slight blistering and am getting really sore shins. All this leads me to believe that my faithful shoes have pounded their last pavement mile!

Before I give them their proper send off and find a fitting replacement I was hoping someone could possibly inform me what alternatives are available these days and how they compare in terms of support, weight, any insights that people can provide really!

U sure your an over pronator with Wave Riders ? They have no stability features what so ever .
Any way if you have not had any issues until now its probably a bit irrelevant .
You can get model wave rider 8s faor around 40 quid on-line.

Fairly sure they said I was a mild pronator.

But having looked around on various websites I see what you mean - they are classed as a neutral cushioned shoe!

In terms of replacements the two main choices seem to be between a pair of waveriders and the Asics Nimbus from what I can tell?

Personaly ASICS shoes just do not fit my foot as well as the Mizunos ( personal choice it does not make the ASICS a bad shoe ) . I had a pair of Nimbus 6s and a pair of Wave Rrider 8s . The Nimbus was a bit squishy and a good bit heavier . The wave rider just felt faster and the cushioning not a soft but still cushioned .

It's entirley down to personal prefernce and running style. I'm 6ft and 15st and under pronate . The wave riders lasted about 300 miles ; the Asics a little bit more but nothing to write home about .

Go to a shop that stocks both . Try one brand on one foot and the other brand on the other foot . Run on the treadmill or run around the shop a little and make your mind up which one feels best .

I will do that - it sounds like a grand idea.

In the runners world shop there are also neutral / cushioned shoes by Saucony, NB, Nike, etc. Anyone have any experience of these other brands?

This is all in preparation for the GNR so I would like something that can stand up to half marathon distances.
