The updated version of this maximum-support shoe is all about increased comfort. Asics has actually bucked the recent trend of stripping away weight and made the shoe heavier, adding a ‘bunion window', a thicker upper and a wider forefoot area, while a new stitchless heel panel is designed to reduce irritation.

Part of the extra weight added has also gone into the reinforced heel and arch supports, which now provide superb anti-pronation protection for those who need it. While the shoe felt heavy underfoot our testers disagreed on flexibility, some being pleasantly surprised and some reporting that an inflexible feel actually caused them pain.
