The Alchemy has been updated with a SmoothRide Engineered outsole, a combination of solid and blown rubber on the forefoot for extra cushioning and durability. Fit seemed better than on previous models, though some testers found the toe-box too roomy (runners with wide feet loved it). The new outsole seems to have made a difference: in our lab tests its cushioning compared favourably even with some neutral models, and testers commented that it gave a light, soft ride for such a supportive shoe.
