First-rate arch support

Flimsy protection

There are a couple of cosmetic tweaks to the latest version of this maximum-support shoe, such as a new upper and Ortholite sockliners, but the main change is in the gender-specific engineering of the last and heels. The women's shoe has a more decoupled heel and a more extreme heel cleft angle to increase control and comfort, while the men's has a wider, more stable platform.

The Alchemy has first-rate arch support, but the sole is firm due to its thin forefoot and lack of foam under the heel. It has the second-firmest forefoot in this guide, according to our lab tests, so the protection may be a bit flimsy for some. Our wear-testers say: "I liked the fit but while the rearfoot felt soft and flexible, the forefoot felt rigid." - Steven Seaton
