New Balance 1223

The stability web has been extended, and the TS2 unit, which aids heel-to-toe transition, has moved towards the forefoot for a softer feel. The outsole has a softer material down the middle for an easier ride. A definite improvement on the 1222, which was a bit too firm; this is still not a pillowy shoe but very comfortable for the amount of support it provides. Fit has improved, and testers commented on the snug, supportive heel cup. The only quibble is the outsole: the softer material meant it wore down more quickly in wear hotspots, and grip wasn't great. Our wear-testers say "This shoe has exceptional cushioning from heel to toe. The tread durability could be improved; wear was apparent after 150 miles." - Tim Becker
