New Balance 859
The 859 has barely changed from its predecessor (858). But there are a couple of notable differences in the updated version: the upper has been changed to become less bulky and more flexible; and material has been removed from the toebox to give it a closer fit.
This is a great shoe that still needs a few tweaks. It’s a bulky, heavy shoe, and takes a bit of breaking in to feel really comfortable. It’s one of the stiffest, firmest shoes on test, according to our lab reports.
However, your feet feel well protected thanks to the piles of cushioning, and heavy heel strikers will be pleased with the extra support from the stability web.
Our wear-testers say:
"They looked very 'blocky' but didn’t feel it. Felt quite natural to run in but 'safe' too because of the deep heel and good ankle support." - Marianne Taylor
