Simple design, few wizz-bang features, but you need a particular running style with strong foot arches. I bought mine in the sale at JJB Sports and they are great value at half price.
If you don't need support then this is the shoe for you. It has a thick springy sole rather than a spongy one. Certainly puts a spring in one's step. The upper is more suitable for winter than summer. The tread pattern is made up of rows of small squares, which is good on wet or even icey roads but slips on muddy tracks. The tread doesn't collect mud, so cleaning is easy. Although the soft rubber looks as though it will wear quickly, mine are hardly marked after 300 miles. The thick insert allows room for orthotics.
Hot feet in summer might be a possibility. Although the shoes are light in weight, my times in training show no improvement over heavier shoes. Your friends at the running club might be dismissive about the Puma brand.
I bought these as a second shoe to my Asics Nimbus, but actually use the Puma more frequently. The Nimbus were three times the price!
