Can anyone recommend trainers that deal with over-pronation and permit orthotics? I've tried several (Ascis Kayano, Saucony and Mizuno Wave), but no good. I've been running with an ITB problem for months and my podiatrist recommeded orthotics but no advice on shoes.

Have you got orthotics now Debbie? Shoes can only do so much (obviously!)  I have orthotics and there's not a pair of shoes in the world that could replace them for how they help me. ETA - have you managed to get rid of the ITB problem at all? Are you seeing a physio?

my understanding (which may be wrong) were that orthotics were worn with neutral shoes?

It kind of depends on the orthotics...  you get over the counter jobbies which some peeps put in any type fo running trainer depending on need...  Most custom made ones are made to give you all the correction you need and should usually be put into a neutral shoe or you risk being overcorrected...  Mine are in neutral shoes.  But I haven't used them since I started POSE running and no problems so far...  *touch wood*

Thanks all for your advice. 'Little Engine', my ITB prob has subsided, but reappears now and again, particularly after long runs at pace. I've seen numerous physios, but all have said to persevere with orthotics and it should eventually go.  I'll stick to the neutral shoes for now. Thanks guys.

Hi

I suffered from ITB and also wear orthotics. Am currently running in Brooks Radius which I seem to get on with. Like you had tried lots of other makes.

ITB probs, try strengthening your glutes and lengthen TFL before and after running.

Thanks Porkey. I've just order Ascis Evolution 4, so I'll give them a try first. If no good, I'll give Brooks Radius a go. I do a lot of yoga, which I find really good to ward off other injuries, but haven't tried stretching off the TFL before a run.
