Flexibility and cushioning

Disproportionately high heel

The men's and women's versions have gender-specific crashpads in the heel, arch bridges in the midfoot and heel cradles to allow for the differences in foot shape and gait.

As with the Air Max+, our testers liked the cushioning provided by the full-length Air unit. Flexibility and cushioning scored highly, but despite the introduction of a new mesh upper, breathability was a bit of a disappointment. Stability ranked only averagely, with some reports claming that the heel was disproportionately high – and some forefoot strikers found that it actually hindered their style.

Our wear-testers say: "Good support but the bulky heels get in the way if you're a forefoot striker" - Malcolm Hinsley
